I stayed at both the Farrington Inn and the HI Downtown Boston. The Farrington is in a quieter, more secluded location between Boston Univ. and Boston College. The rooms are clean, but the beds are older and tend to sag. The good thing is that generally there are only three beds per room, so it's quieter and less crowded than the HI Boston.

It is ok for one night if nothing else is free, but not more!

Very old. Desperate for upgrading. Bad smell in the room (and there was a rat in the room on my final night there!)

The hostel is a wood house.Everything in the hostel is old, even the door of your room(That is why I think the security is not good). I booked a private twin bed room. There is a TV in my room.Besides, the air in my room is not good.It feel no air flow in my room, even I open my window and door.

We stayed at room 113, where the only things we appreciated were the tv, microwave and size of the room. The bedsheets on one of the double beds had knife-stab-like holes in them and both blankets were dusty/musky/just didn't feel like they were washed recently. The radiators in our room and the common bathroom did not come on and off at intervals as told by one of the staff who answered our enquiry over the phone (we dialed "21"). They were not turned on at all throughout our stay. We would only recommend this place for the price and security.

It is a good place. Live there is convenient. There are all kinds of stores and restaurants as well as McDonald. It is about 8-10 minutes walk from the Green Line (B) subway leading to downtown. It will take about 20 minutes to take 20 minutes from the Harvard Ave Station to Downtown. It is clean, although not quite clean because we stay there with a mouse for five nights. The mouse obviously enjoyed our cookies:)

We were not so happy with our stay. We came in our room and the thing was the scary puppet and one the walls were picturs of dead people. It was a miserable time. The bathrooms weren´t clean... I would never stay there again!!!

I was honestly disappointed. I am a really open minded person and like making the best of the situation but I was a bit uncomfortable staying here. All the rooms needed were a little colorful paint and sheets (and blankets) that seemed cleaned to at least to mask the fact that you can't tell whether the neighborhood is safe or not. It wasn't that bad since I ended up totally safe but I was a bit uncomfortable the whole time

bed lamp didn't work; noise level: between 11-2 lots of loud noise, loud male voices and doors slamming....a bit scarey, actually.
