The hostel is actually an apartment whose rooms are the private rooms of the hostel. We had an double room en suite. Room is cleaned only upon arrival of new guests, not every day. The only towels they have are handtowels, which makes it difficult after taking a shower. Lighting of the room was very poor. Very few power sockets as well. Room was also cold at night. There is heating but they turn it on for a couple of hours and only at night. Location very good though. Gaston, from Argentina ~ 4th May 2012

Loved this hostel! I would recommend it to anyone. The women who owns it is very nice, and she'll give you a map and circle the best places to go. In a very quiet section, next to the river, and not far to walk to the party section of town. The bathroom is huge! The shower is very clean, too. However, there were no towels. This place is more like a warehouse that they transformed into a hostel. The beds weren't even real beds. There was no permanent staff at the hostel. At some points of the day these 2 ladies used to come to the hostel for a few minutes, but they talked to each other really loud, like arguing, even before 9am. No respect to the guests who were sleeping. I found the doors of the building and even the hostel's door openned more than once, even when there was no staff there. I'd never come back. Great location. 5 min walk from the train station, right in the middle of the old historic part of downtown. All the major sites are easily reached by foot. The hostel is easy to find but you have to look at the brass nameplates on the sides of the buildings to be sure you are at the right place. Then you have to ring a buzzer and someone will unlock the outside door so you can get in. The hostel is small, but clean. Not a very social place, but location and rooms are great. Timothy, from USA ~ 20th Dec 2011

The Afossi hotel was comfortable, clean, and in a perfect location for travellers. I especially liked the staff- who are welcoming, sweet, and made my time in Italy wonderful! Allison, from USA ~ 6th Oct 2011

Extremely well located and really nice staff. The room in itself was clean and functional but lacked a persona. The hostel was undergoing a renovation which may explain the lack of decorations. Rickard, from Sweden ~ 4th Oct 2011

The location is great and Marta is wonderful - she is a sweet motherly type who will help you in any way she can.Otherwise the accomdations were pretty basic and small without a whole lot of character or interaction with the other guests. But if you want a safe and clean place just to sleep this is a great bet. Very small place and there was a lack of availability of the staff as they were often nowhere to be found. The location is incredible (though Florence is a small city to begin with). April-Rose, from USA ~ 13th Jun 2011
