Owner is nice guy, good guide as well until we got scammed by his friend who´s a taxi driver and ripped us off. Otherwise, we were the only ones there and had all the attention, it was clean and reasonable.

Alajuela Tropical Hostel was absolutely a wonderful place to stay my first two nights in Costa Rica. Alonso, the owner, is extremely considerate and accomodating towards his guests, and makes you feel completely comfortable in his home. The breakfast is great and the free pìck up from the airport is extremely helpful when arriving in a new country for the first time. Definitely stay here!

Alonso is a great host. He knows everything about the area and goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. He picked us up across town, showed us around, and his hostel is very homely. I would highly recommend starting your trip here, as Alonso is a great resource and will go out of his way to help you plan your trip.

This is a very convenient accommodation with internet, breakfast and airport shuttle included. The VW Safari is the neatest little vehicle ever! Alonso is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. His information combined along with the further research (Lonely Planet, various travel/backpacking websites and local travel advice) necessary to validate any information source proved to be quite reliable. The bus as well as hiking information he provided us was spot on. He was also very willing to s

Alonso is very hospitable, fixes delicious breakfasts, and cleans the place regularly. However, take some of his advice with a grain of salt because I don't think he has been away from the Alajuela area for a while. He was very helpful when advising us where to go in Costa Rica, but his price suggestions were way off and he told us we could camp at Manuel Antonio Nat'l park, but they don't allow camping there anymore. Not a big deal, just be aware that things might cost more than he says or n

Not much to look at or write home about, but a very convenient place to stay near the airport, good if you are just staying a night before moving on. Alonso is amazingly friendly and helpful, though he was clearly trying to steer us towards businesses owned by his friends. They were good though. And breakfast was freshly made and delicious.

Excellent place to begin and end your trip. The hostel owner was extremely helpful when providing advice on where to go and what to see on our vacation.
