There were dead flies EVERYWHERE! And the staff didn't really care to clean them up, even when they were all around the asado, it was disgusting. Apart from that it would have been one of my favorite hostels in South America... Alyssa, from USA ~ 11th Dec 2011

The reception, computers, sitting, dining and bar areas are all in one big open plan room so there is no escape from noise.Music is played all day and the BBQ diners talk loudly until midnight.The noise is channelled down a passageway to the nearest dorms. Wonderful hostel with an extremely friendly and helpful staff that would be delighted to schedule all your excursions for you, and if you wish you can join an all you can eat barbeque each night and mingle with your fellow travelers. Only two things to note - the triangular shape of the window makes it impossible to shut out light from outside, and the walls are thin so you may find yourself woken up by your neighbors. Staying at America del Sur in El Calafate was probably the best thing I did. As soon as I booked a night, they sent me an email with all possible itineraries. From direct buses to Torres del Paine (a bit expensive but worth it), to Mini Trekking Perito Moreno Glacier, and to buses to Fitz Roy. The staff was amazing and very helpful, the BBQ they do every night is delicious, and I had a great time staying there for three nights. The location is good, 15 min walk to the bus station.
