A beautiful little hostel in a beautiful part of Taiwan. The place is very clean and laid-back. The lobby is open-air, very relaxing, and the whole place just generally has a good feeling to it. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

The hostel is located in walking distance from the train station, which is great if you arrive by train. The staff was nice, but other than that I was a bit disappointed by this hostel. There was no lock on the door to the rooms, and the floor was dusty. The bathrooms looked old and run down. We only met two other guests while we were there, but that was in March (out of season). Other than that it was okay.

Great hostel, easy to find, friendly, and hot water available 24/7. I also like the fact that there were gender-specific rooms (eg all female), they should advertise that. The bathroom could use more hooks/shelves outside shower stalls for hanging clothing/towel such that when you shower your clothes and towel don't get wet. Also shelves near sink to temporarily place toothpaste, contact lens holder, etc would be helpful. Overall very comfortable place and an excellent base for exploring both Hualien and nearby Taroko Gorge :-).
Amigos Hostel is one of our favorite hostels in the world. We always feel like we're their first priority when we stay there, and we are very well taken care of. We would recommend this hostel to anyone, anytime.

Tim & Chi are AWESOME! They were so friendly and helpful, before and during our stay there! When emailing them they responded so quickly and were always helpful. During our stay they were lovely and couldn't enough to help us. The location is great, very close to the station. The lounge area downstairs is great, lots of space and free computer with internet. Toaster oven, microwave & hot water always available. They arranged our scooter hire for us too. The beds and rooms are clean and comfortable and bathrooms good as well. Felt very homely. We had a FANTASTIC weekend in HuaLien.
