A relaxing fun place to enjoy the Dutch countryside. It was like spending a weekend at a friends house. The staff and Theo, the owner are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Theo is an excellent cook. The house is clean and brightly decorated with artifacts from Africa, India and Nepal. There is only one toilet and one shower but it was never a problem during our weekend stay. It was always kept clean. Lots of areas in the house and garden to hang out in. Lots of biking to do in the area. If your looking for a quaint place to stay int the countryside away from the craziness of the major cities, this is it.
One can find there all it is needed to enjoy a relaxing weekend: hundreds of books, thousands of DVD's, ping-pong table, camp-fire, few animals and much more. Besides, people make their best to help you. It has been my first trip by myself (well, weekend) and after this experience I'm excited with the idea of doing it again. Though I know I will hardly find a nicer place than Animal House. I have felt as if I were a member rather than a customer. Thank you so much!!!!!
Very special hostel. In the country, fresh air, animals. Recommend for weekend break from big city backpacking or a great escape into the european country. Easy stop between Amsterdam and the Deutcsh Rhineland. Bring swim trunks in the summer and be ready to bike around, bikes are free to hire. Riverside biking is a must, and a beer at one of the many small pubs. The hostel itself is a mess (a good mess). Internet, big screen movies at night (movie selction is amazing), campfires, constantly changing outdoor areas (seating, couches, rabbit chasing). If you bring some energy though you'll be rewarded in the countryside or in the river; if you're drained, it's easy to recharge here. Really accomodates all types of lifestyles (active, coffeeshop, world tourist, etc). Staff is really great, dedicated people here make the attention level feel in between a hostel and a b&b. Careful when you go, busses don't run on weekends or holidays and it's a 16 euro taxi to the hostel. And bring food, 10 minute bike to nearest store (closed sundays). As long as your not looking for big city bull, you can't help but enjoy your stay here.

Absolutely magical and amazing place, staff is incredibly nice & helpful. Rooms, bathrooms & toilets are clean. "Cinema" room & "smoking" room rocks! Prepare yourself for a lot of fresh air and some good rest for excellent price. Only thing i really hate about it is location - i dont mind the distance from major cities, its just REALLY hard to find. We have spent some good few hours trying to find it.

Excellent hostel, wonderful staff, great uniqe atmosphere. We were really amazed by the on-site facilities!
I have never before seen such different groups of people all be accommodated so warmly and appropriately. This Dutch farm is a place you reserve for a night and end up staying days. Theo and the Animal House are quite special in this respect and I look forward to staying and visiting the area again in the future.
Hidden Gem!!! About 15 euro trip from amsterdam roughly 1.5 hours. This hostel has more to provide to its guests then just about any hostel or hotel I have ever stayed at. Wonderful bedrooms that allow awesome sleep. 3 computers with internet access. Hundreds of DVDs to watch. A loanable, laptop computer to use wifi around the property (big bonus). Secluded smoking room. There is plenty to do on the property such as camp fires, outdoor checkers (large size), makeshift hot-tube, many sitting areas. Also has bike rental for 2.5 euro a day, just don\'t use the bike I choose ( I killed it accidentaly). Wine/beer cellar with a good selection and price range. Beers are 1 euro and wine starts at 5 and goes up. Great kitchen, fully set up. Only has on bathroom and shower, but plenty of space. Has a projection system for viewing DVDs or playing the Xbox (4 meter square) with many couches for viewing. Only issue is public transport. Sundays is rough to get back to the trainstation because the bus does not run. The grocery requires a 10km bike ride or you can purchase breakfast or dinner for 4 euro (I think). This is the place you want to go when you vacation. I could go on and on, but hopefully you understand what I mean. Oh did I mention that the owner Theo speaks 7 languages and has been to over 120 countries (I forget the exact number) and has great advice to sightseeing.
This place is great! So different to any other hostel i have been in and it was amazing to stay out in the country side of Holland!
