We had to switch rooms 3 times which was quite annoying. On top of it the showers were very poorly working and the ceilings in the rooms very low so very hot! Read Owner Comments Jasmijn, from Netherlands ~ 22nd Feb 2010

Positive: Friendly and helpful staff, free wifi, good fun, nice terrace, breakfast included, location is convenient, price ok. Negative: 12 bed dorm very hot, fans but no a/c, they said breakfast until 10 but at 9.45 there was nothing left. Not enough lockers (and they are not safe either). Forget the carnival package, it's a ripoff, for the price of ONE dorm bed during carnival (150 real/night), you get a DOUBLE ROOM in a Hotel in Niteroi (eg Plaza), an easy 20-min ferry ride from downtown Rio Luzian, from Switzerland ~ 15th Mar 2010

Pretty good hostel bang in the middle of where youd want to be in RIO. Breakfast was good, staff friendly and location is awesome right by the tube and all the buses youd want. Room was pretty average (small and hot and no change of towels etc) but for that price for RIO, pretty good value.... Tom, from England ~ 10th Jan 2010

The hostel is in a very good location, around the corner from metro, food, pharmacy, supermarket, etc. THe staff has no clue about the area, bus, transport, fares, tickets, etc, but they were friendly. an airport transfer organized by them was the cleaning lady giving us a ride in her own car for $50R. When asked how much was a regular cab to the airport, they had no idea. other than the clueless staff and the dingy rooms, great location worth a stay. Good hostel with friendly staff but bathroom was on the damp side and the sewers caused it to smell a dair bit! We stayed for 4 nights and had to pay for fresh towels which was a bit stingy! carol, from England ~ 19th Oct 2009

Very pleased with our 5 night stay at Art Hostel Rio. The location was good, right next to the metro station and in a vibrant yet safe part of the city. The breakfast was very nice also. The staff however could have been a little more informed about all things Rio, sometimes when we asked them about how to get somewhere they were as clueless as we were, but they were still very friendly. This hotel is pretty cool...but we had bad luck with our room...a ´´quarto de casal``. It had a hole in the wall (barely patched with wooden plate = mosquitos!), the door didn`t close propelly, the bathroom was stinking (so the room to) and not clean at our arrival. PS: We said this 2X at the reception...without any response. Amelie, from Canada ~ 18th Jul 2009

Hotel staff did little to help out with site-seeing, weren't that friendly; some of the lights in the building didn't work, as well as some of the outlets; our hot water didn't work; our sheets had stains on them; and the breakfast was pretty bad (bees on the food, with the staff not even caring) plus the food was just bad. BUT what can you say, it was cheap and I wasn't planning on hanging out at the hostel anyway... Read Owner Comments Adriel, from USA ~ 21st Apr 2009

Very convenient location - about 1 minute walk to Metro, and about 5-8 minutes before the excellent clean beach. Rooms small but clean, clean every day. Breakfast is delicious. The hotel left a very pleasant experience. Tatiana, from Russia ~ 9th Apr 2009
