  • Don't expect to end up in a high-class hostel, or even not so high-class, then you'll get disappointed heavily. The Toyo Hostel is a lovely place with nice staff and a very good location, central and just across the is a cozy street with many restaurant's and izakaya's. The room I had was a single 3 Tatami-matt-room, with a futon and a small wardrobe in the wall. It wasn't really dirty, rather a bit shabby. I wouldn't stay in there for weeks, but for a short weekendtrip it's just the right place

  • Old building, but i enjoyed to stay in a bedroom on my own. Linen not so clean, but ok. There is one new cublicle shower very, very nice. Other than that: friendly staff and close to the train station. Fine!!!

  • We were four people in two rooms. The Japanese bath was under construction at the moment, but they gave us the possiblity to go to the Japanese bath of the hotel on the other side of the street. The hotel is close by to a train station, but the area is not very welcoming.

  • Do not even consider taking a room without air conditioning even on winter, because it equals up to heating. You can end up on non heated room with +5 at nights... No key deposit, but showers are awful.

  • old and worn out business-hotel converted to backpackers hostel.pro: friendly and english speaking staff (rare in japan),well mantained common kitchen, close to subway and train station, free powerful wifi cons: only one shower room, old and not so clean room interiors,no heating in toilets and shower room, the japanese style bath is terrible, the area is dirty and full of homeless ppl.

  • The staff was really nice, i stayed in a one person room. The room had a weird/bad smell, it was really cold too. There was 4 toilets in each floor, and only 1 out of those toilets was western style... there was some bathrooms that were broken... the hotel wasnt cosy at all. the hall looked more like a hospital... the surroundings looked a bit dangerous, but it was really close to the station. wouldnt stay there again... but it was cheap so..

  • Staff were friendly, fun and welcoming. The common room was a great place to mingle, great vibe, and the little tatami rooms were cute and clean. People (Japanese) warned me that it was a dangerous area, but I think they were referring to the higher percentage of drunk and odd people—it was still safer than most places you incur when travelling. Was near lots of interesting temples and sights, close to transport, etc. Best hostel experience I had in Japan!

  • I felt very satisfied staying at Hotel Toyo. I stayed for around 6 days. The staff is very friendly and spoke English. In terms of facilities, its what I would ask for in a hostel. They have a common room with couches, beanbags, two computers with free wifi, and a kitchen table and the usual appliances. Also free showers. Its cheap (paid $20/night for a single) and many young people come there, so if you just go to the common room at night its very easy to meet someone.

  • Very basic accomodation on a location close to the topwer and a train station, not cozy at all. Very cheap tough.

  • A basic hotel with very basic facilities. A person room is good but there are quite a few hotels nearby offering similar rate. It is a pity there are no free coffee or tea (as it is more of a standard fare in Japan hostel). In the website, there are free luggage storage but they will only do it within the day. If you want to store it overnight, you need to book a return room. Once again, this is poor service as most hostel I came across will store your luggage for a few days.

  • Very basic accommodation no fuss. It's located in an old town very near to the shin-Innomiya & the Dobutsuen Station though. Sleeps on a tatami floor mat and very private. I enjoyed the privacy for a 2 days stay in Osaka. Helpful staff but not quite outspoken and unsmiling.

  • Good place. A room all to myself with TV and fan. They provided big liquid bottles of soap, shampoo and conditioner for the shower. Very close to subway. Good enough kitchen with everything provide. And free computer for people to use. I would stay again.

  • The private rooms are cheap (about the same cost as a bed in a dorm room). Try to get a room with air-con.We were stuck in a fan only room and it got a bit hot over night. The staff are great and the common room has good facilities. About 20 mins on the JR line from osaka station

  • I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights. The staffs are really nice and helpful. One of the lady gave me a quick tour of the hostel after checking-in, and another staff recommended a really good restaurant (I highly recommend this restaurant, it's called Okanamiyaki. The owner is really nice too). The hostel looks a bit old and the oldness makes it looks unclean and dirty, but it's pretty well-kept. The shower doesn't have a confine shower booth. Overall, this hostel is worth well worth the money.

  • The neighbourhood of this hotel is not amazing, but not really dangerous (from what I've heard and seen). The hotel is also not great, the rooms are very small, but there is a common space, and it's in quite a handy location. Also, it's great value for your money (dorm prices for a single room). It was a useful place to stay!

  • The staff were amazingly friendly but my room had something in it that ate me alive. Covered in bug bites, bed quite uncomfortable and my lightbulb didn't work. I may have been unlucky but as value for money the place is great.
