they can't be trusted. i asked to be pick up at the airport by email which they said would be 160 rand because it was after there regular hours of pick ups. but, after i arrived and had the pick up, they said they are charging me 300 rand because they recently raised their prices. this despite of my email confirmation of what the price would be!

We stayed in room #15 (?) which was along a narrow and dreary hallway. The atmosphere at the hostel was good, though I suppose as expected, the rest of the clientale was quite young (highschool?). A few hooks in the rooms would be helpful. Location is good, and staff was extremely friendly.

Ritz is a perfect backpackers. The location is wonderful, the cleanliness is excellent and the guests respect each others. I recommend it.

I arrived in Johannesburg and arranged for transport to the hostel. The service was excellent as there was someone there to pick me up. When i arrived at the hostel, I was greeted by a very rude and unhelpful front desk staff. They assigned me to a one bedroom hostel which was located at the very back of the mansion overlooking a backwall with barbed wire fence. The room smelled extremely stale and was filthy. I immediately got it changed to a 18 bed dorm which was much more pleasnt. Throughout my 2 night stay at the hostel, the staff was very unfriendly and not helpful. They would not answer questions and spent most of their time gossiping. This feeling was echoed by the remainder of the other tourists staying. Surpringly, a gentleman by the name of Stephen was extremely rude when I asked him if i could utilize his services to book a bus ticket to gaborone. And it wasn't as if he was busy. he was reading a newspaper! IN summary, if u want to live in a good location regardless of the quality of the hostel and cleaniless and friendliness of the staff than u should stay here. it is close to many restaurants and an awesome bakery. I for myself will recommend others all around the world and in the US NOT TO STAY HERE. it is just not worth it. If u book your hostel stay here, u may later say.. I should of listended to that guy!

Felt like I was in prison....room stunk of damp. Stayed at another hostel in Joburg that was far better.

I didn't find the staff all that helpful during my stay and felt that when i asked or needed something from them it was an inconvenience. This is not something you expect when you book into a hostel. I talked to a few other people while i was there and found they felt the same aswell.
