I had the best time eer at Banana Backpackers, all the staff and everyone I met there were very friendly and lovely and looked after me really well. It had everything you need and everywhere in Durban is really easy to get to from there. I'm going back!

a bit dirty and run down inside. they had a ''parking space'' available for our vehicle which ended up being on the footpath. also gave us a whell clamp to use - hardly comforting. our stay was only short and saved by the pool table in the lounge/bar

The place is situated in a safe location, we were even able to walk at night.bt the bed bugs damn they had me on the last night there. The stuff was very friendly though and the showers were nice and big. But dont expect too much.

We were colossally dissapointed with the Banana Backpackers and decided to leave. They are in a terrible and seemingly unsafe location. The facilities are also in disrepair. Would not recommend.

Unfortunately Banana Backpackers was the worst place we stayed in on our South Africa trip. It is a lovely old building with emormous potential but is currently terrible. It is dirty and worn out. The room could not have been more basic or uncomfortable and the toilet and shower room left a lot to be desired. The staff are just about doing their job but are definately lacking in any enthusiasm or willingness to be helpful. It needs to be realised that very often a visitors impression of an entire town can be ruined by a bad accommodation experience. I will not be rushing back to Durban and will advise any visitor to give Banana Backpackers a very wide berth.

Nice hostel, very clean. Not a bad location, though ask what areas you shouldn't walk through at night.
We really enjoyed our stay at Banana's. Morris was a fab host and Amanda had all the answers!
terrible location, it is actually situated on top of a brothel. close to the beach but the walk there was not safe, and we were advised not to go out after 6. nothing else to see except for the beach.

I was there at the end of Nov, so maybe I'm being harsh, but the place was relatively empty at the time. Superb location, but everyone advises taking a cab everywhere anyway...
