I have never been so impressed by a hostel.. this place is unbelievable! On every possible aspect Barefoot far exceeds the standard expected and goes on to provide one of the most comfortable, safe and enjoyable stays I've ever had. Why stay in a hotel and be locked in a room by yourself when you can have this warm, safe, fun, well kitted out and homely experience. Very clean, you cant enter with shoes. Great bathroom, better than in my house. Close to the main attractions in Ottawa. There is no staff in the building - check-in is in another hotel beside - so its very silent (despite a great construction close, starting at 7 a.m.), sometimes you fell like "nobodys home" - in other words, its a peacefull place to sleep and rest and wake up to meet Ottawa, not to have much fun inside. extremely comfortable! great beds/bedding, nice bathrooms, clean living room with large flatscreen tv and two computers. my only recommendation would be that the owners provide disposable booties if people want to keep their shoes on. the booties just slide over shoes and keep floors clean. during my stay there were some guests with incredibly smelly feet!!! i'm sure they would have liked to have kept their shoes on as well... I had a fantastic time at Barefoot. This is one of the best hostels you can possibly stay at, and well worth the few extra dollars over somewhere like HI. The lady running it was very kind and accommodating. The common room had almost anything you could ever want. The common room, bedrooms and bathroom were all very clean. Location was excellent - right near the downtown area and parliament hill. The only negative is there are only 2 bathrooms, so there can be a bit of a wait in the morning.
