Barkston Youth Hostel in Rome, England

I have stayed in several hostels and this one was about average compared to the rest. I was happy with it all except for the staff. I waited for over 20 minutes standing at the reception desk trying to get there attention as they sat behind the desk talking. Then after the guy finally gave me his attention and asked for my name, I waited another ten or so as he showed a coworker stuff on the computer. Told to leave my bags in a dirty green shack until check-in. When I got back, they were tossed about. Wifi costs a pound an hour. My floor reeked of mold. The kitchen had no dishes. Two pots under the sink with food burnt into them. Front desk rudely told me I was expected to bring my own dishes. breakfast was a guy standing next a squeaky toaster and a trash bag of corn flakes to distribute out meal rations after checking your name off a list. it cost 3 pounds with hostels.com booking. Its a little difficult to find it. my room was a little small and around the corner, but considering I was staying only one night its ok.There is not wifi in the rooms i should get to the lobby and buy a card to have access jorge, from Mexico ~ 1st Nov 2011

Very nice and especially good located hostel. Althought the beds are very shaky and partially broken, sleeping was not a problem at all. Everything is more or less clean. Next tube is just a two minute walk away. I had a lovely time there! Julia, from Germany ~ 28th Mar 2011

Character: This place is a little dull and dreary looking, despite being mostly clean. There's some interesting small-tile work around the outside entrance, and when I stayed here two charming birds graced a birdcage in the front room. There wasn't a lot else interesting going on. Security: I felt reasonably safe here. I stayed in a single, so I didn't take advantage of the luggage room, but there did appear to be one, and they seemed to keep a good eye on it (door closed at all times, the en Adam, from USA ~ 14th Mar 2011
