Despite my confirmed booking in a mixed dorm, I was denied access to this room on arrival because of my age(52). Initially I was told the hostel was for serious backpackers only. Having shown my interstate drivers licence and backpack, I was then told that some females might feel confronted if I were in the dorm. A private room was available to me at $100 per night if I chose to upgrade, which I didn't, on principle. Base Bne is poor value by any standards.
