the club downstairs is lots of fun and plenty of $5 meals everyday it's so easy to get around st.kilda and melbourne with the tram right outside the beach is 5 minutes away! i would definitely stay there again Ashley, from Canada ~ 13th Dec 2011

It is a party hostel and thus a great place to meet people at the bar lounge, which is very cool by th. Staff is very helpful. Highly automated place, from card-swiping doors, to candy and drink machines, washing machine, dryer, ATMs, which is a big plus. Location is great as well, next to a wide range of restaurants, stores, and transportation. Although it was not a big deal for me (I sleep like a rock), for those sensitive to noise, you might find it a bit noisy at times. Wifi is paid BRUCE, from Brazil ~ 1st Sep 2011

Base is a good hostel for people looking for a party....but if you're after a decent night's sleep, choose somewhere else.There were no noise restrictions, and we were awakened several times throughout the night by people yelling and singing in the hall.From the second floor room, we could clearly hear the music from the bar.Also, the room smelled like gym socks, the carpets were matted, and the walls were covered in mildew. This hostel was one of the best Ive stayed at. Free Breakfast and Free Dinner! b/c the kitchen is down for awhile. You cant beat free compared to the expense of living over there. The staff was amazing and the Bar was always playing good tunes and serving cheap drinks. Great location and the atmosphere in St Kilda is great. I would highly recommend. Overall a good hostel. great location and the place had a great atmosphere,definatley a party hostel.everyone was really friendly.when i arrived the kitchen area was being remade but they compensated by offering free breakfast and dinner.i was on the first floor so you cld hear the music from the club below but that always finished bout 12 or 1 so it wasnt too much of a problem.only 1 on-suite to a 10 bedroom dorm but suprisling that wasnt a problem either.cld do with more plugs in the room but jason, from New Zealand ~ 2nd Apr 2011

the carpets were very dirty especially the stairs very dusty and the bathroom floor was never cleaned properly an as i stayed for a eek i would have expected my sheets to be changed at least once the music downstairs was fine a little bit loud when there was live music otherwise good breakfast was good as it was free and due to the flooding earlier this year we got a good free dinner each night as well overall i had a very good stay it is very very close to the shops, food anything u need Tiffany, from New Zealand ~ 27th Feb 2011
