Base St Kilda in Melbourne, Australia

From the outside nice and new, from the inside ok on the first impression. Staff is friendly and helpfull. Our stay was awefull anyway. There was still poop in our toilet at arrival!!!! We stayed there at winter time and had no heater in our Private Double Ensuite!!! Also if you need a good night sleep it's definitively not the place you wanna stay. Hi Philipp, Thanks for the feedback. I'm sorry if your stay was not as you imagined. It certainly seems there were some problems here. Your comments obviously concerned us greatly and we have since done some investigations. Hope this explanation in some way goes to helping the situation. Firstly the hot water. The whole of Stkilda experienced a power outage this day which automatically shut off the gas. It only lasted a few hours and was out of our control. Sorry for this. Secondly, the noise. Unfortunately room 106 is the closest room to the bar. Staff should have warned you that it can be a little loud on weekends. We would have been happy to change your room if you were heading to bed early. Again sorry for this. Thirdly, the carpet. Not sure about this one. I checked the room and the carpet had definitely been vacuumed, and it was ticked on the checklist the day before you checked in. Fourthly, the toilet. I am afraid I cannot explain this Philip. I have spoken to the HK team and they are thinking one of the tradesmen may have boon in there. Either way it is the last thing you would want to see after checking in. Terrible. Our sincere apologies. Lastly the internet. We use Global gossip which is a fast and an award winning company. Unfortunately the minimum charge is $5. Hope you were able to use any extra credit at one of the many other stores. I'm glad the staff and inside were up to a good standard – at least we got something right! Central located in St Kilda, close to all amenities and the beach, clean kitchen and laundry. Our double room is clean but no wardrobe. Neither a window nor an extractor fan (may not working?) in the en suite bathroom. WEI, from Australia ~ 7th Feb 2009

We didn't have hot water for the first two days that we stayed here. It wasn't the end of the world but the staff weren't very apologetic. St Kilda is such a lovely area though, you're bound to enjoy your stay here. Sally, from Australia ~ 10th Jan 2009

Looks like all the other Base hostels, everyone is there to drink or book STA travel. Not a good place for a bed, but good for a drink or a quick f**k I suppose.
