Base Sydney in Sydney, Australia

Unclear guidlines / rules on when lights can be turned off within dorm room at night. Steel beds make a lot of noise and move when the other person on the other bunk roles over. solid wood/steal would be so much better.... or even just some WB40 to make them quieter would be good. The location is good and the facilities of this hostel are also what you should expect. The reception starff are friendly and helpful, however be warned that the 'travel agency' is not part of Base and if you have any issues they will not sort it out. Be warned if you pay for your room up front and then your plans change and you need to head off early - they will NOT refund your money. This was my second stay at Base in Sydney. I was in room 113 during my second stay and I was very pleased with the cleanliness, comfort and simplicity of the room. The second stay was miles better than my first. The staff are very friendly and out-going and the location is superb. Would stay there again and would recommend. Had to use key to get in girl room which I though was good. Rooms are full but the lockers under the beds are nice. Nice bar at the floor level. Would have like a light near each bed. Bring flashlight to come in at night to the room to be able to see after people have gone to bed. One of the better hostels I stayed at. Okay if you're looking for a party atmosphere - young crowd. Large hostel and more impersonal than others we stayed in - but it was only overnight before going home. Have to pay for luggage lockers after checkout time if you aren't leaving at that time. Diana, from USA ~ 14th Jun 2009
