This hostel is the best hostel I've stayed in. It is in a perfect location in the hutong, an area full of character and convenient places to go out at night. It is about ten minutes walk to a subway station. The staff could not be more helpful or kind. They arrange trips to the tourist hot spots, but also provide advice on how to access the obscurist of places, and even provide upon check-in a helpful leaflet which contains instructions and maps for taxi drivers. Great hostel. Friendly staff went out of their way to be extremely helpful. Some of the most comfortable beds I've slept on in my three+ years as an American expat living in China. Also, great location in the middle of quiet historic hutong district. In-laws visiting from America loved it as well. Can't beat the combination of price, character, friendliness and location. Downtown Backpackers is probably the best hostel I\'ve ever stayed in. Fantastic location on a hutong (backstreet) in the \'arty\' quarter of town, with lots of cool bars and boutiques. Easy to get to the sights of Beijing from here. Clean and quiet rooms, staff were all so friendly and helpful with excellent English. Free Western-style breakfast in their great little cafe. We stayed here 5 nights, went off on a trip, and when we came back for 2 more nights we were SO happy to get back to th Sophie, from England ~ 4th Oct 2009

Pros - excellent free breakfast, interesting surroundings, and lots of information re tours etc Cons - our room smelled of damp slightly, there is only one bathroom available to each dorm meaning quite a long wait for a shower sometimes, breakfast does not include a hot drink, and laundry facility is very expensive, with no sensible place to dry clothes Melanie, from England ~ 9th Sep 2009
