Overall an excellent hostel for inexpensive, short term. I stayed in the multi-person dorms. Some of the staff are excellent, while others are more interesting. Excellent location. Worth the stay.

Everything was fine except the shower. Instructions are in Chinese and it would go from freezing to boiling in 2 minutes. Had to get help.

Really very dirty, also quite a lot of noise from the street, less noise though in the many rooms without window, mouldy and toilet smell common. It is a shame because location close to subway and Houhai is really excellent. But we moved out after one night.

It was decently situated if you are okay with a bit of a walk to the biggest attractions. The staff was not very helpful and when they were they acted like it was a great inconvenience to them. I did have much better luck with the day staff than the night staff. The room could have been much cleaner though, with stuff stuck to the walls and the AC leaked onto the floor, soaking the carpet.

This was probably the best experience I ever had at a hostel in Beijing. Location was excellent, the staff superb, and the environment quiet and comfortable. This is one of the few hostels I actually will recommend to my friends and family.

This place is in a great position to the North of the Forbidden City and is only 2 mins from the Metro. It's right by the bar area round the Houhai lake and has a shop and a cheap internet cafe right next door. It's also got a really cool rooftop area with a bar and great views of the Bell and drum tower.

We stayed there from Oct 25-29, 2006. Overall, the staff were excellent, very helpful, good English, fast and cheap Internet, excellent heating/AC, cleanliness satisfactory for the price paid. We did have a problem with a large construction site directly beside the hostel. On our first night we had to complain because a 5 man crew started shovelling bricks into two large dump trucks from about 1-3 am. Closing the windows, turning up the fan for ambient noise, and wearing ear plugs did not help. The staff were helpful in going outside to request them to stop working and we also changed rooms the next night. The warning to potential guests at this hostel is that there is the potential for noise at any time of the day and night and carefully choose the room you stay in to ensure it does not overlook the construction site. Although there was this problem, the staff were good about trying rectify the matter.

Room very good. Internet bit expensive. No bar/food as far as I could tell. Location pretty good.
