The guests here are a mix some college, some international tourists, some with mental illness. Common kitchen is kept very clean.I've seen a homeless woman sleep on a chair in an alcove for 2 nights in a row.Quite disappointed with Berkeley, which is filled with homeless, addicts, and alcoholics.Berkeley is a dirty city overall and it is not recommended to walk at night. Inside the building is clean like new.The location is perfect. Close to funs, shops, banks, buses, and trans. Homeless peopele sneak into the hotel and sleep Corridors on 4th floor. That causes smell. Michiko, from Japan ~ 24th Aug 2011

I have stayed at the Berkeley Y hotel at various times over the past 5 or 6 years.I may not be as fussy as some others, but I find it to be a very nice place and quiet enough for me (most of the time, depends on what room I get.)The location can't be beat in Berkeley, right near BART downtown.There is a common room and a kitchen.
