Being able to use the gym is a big plus! Tsuguhiko, from Japan ~ 18th Oct 2009

The availability of hot water was inconsistent. I tried taking a shower at night, and could get no hot water, but in the morning, there was hot water, though it was limited. Also the bathrooms/showers are down the hall from the rooms, which wasn't mentioned in the description. Judiah, from USA ~ 12th Oct 2009

Exercise facilities were absolutely fantastic! Gene, from USA ~ 21st Oct 2009

The access to the gym and full lap pool was the reason I stayed here, and they were both superb. The residence, however, is very basic. There are no TV\'s in the rooms, which was a surprise to me. There are 3 computers to access the internet, and a full kitchen and microwaves available for use. The bathrooms were very clean for the most part, except for the heavy usage parts of the morning, and there were plenty available. It's a basic place to sleep near the city center. I was delighted to stay at the Berkeley Y, so much so that when I was traveling back to NYC via SFO, I returned there for a second time. I could easily have booked a hotel in SF closer to the airport, but the cleanliness, the friendly staff, the neighborhood [it's right there at University of CA Berkeley] really gave me a lot of joy. Do be prepared to deal with small single beds. Even so, I am 6 feet 3 inches and was still able to sleep on them, comfortably too. The BEST PART of stayi Tim, from USA ~ 7th Aug 2009

the staff in the front desk was not nice at all. he threw my passport at me... other than that, the rooms are really clean, and the location is ok. Minami, from Japan ~ 6th Jul 2009

there is no heat in the rooms and only a thin blanket on the bed. other guests are sometimes noisy at night (banging on the doors). bathrooms are clean, but cooking area in the kitchen is not. internet access is much appreciated and also the use of the Y facility next door. overall a good bargain. Parking is a problem in this area. Carpet and furnishing are a rundown (risk of flaes ...). Markus, from Germany ~ 25th Jun 2009

It would be nice to have heat. We were shivering cold most of the weekend. The scaffolding was kind of cool. I'll miss it when you're done remodeling. I really liked the eco-friendly toilets that allow a user to specify a different level of water usage depending on whether s/he has deposited solid or liquid waste. This should be in all bathrooms. Thanks for introducing us to it! Very affordable, considering neighboring hotel prices. Get the heat and AC working right and you'll have a gem of a ho Omar, from USA ~ 25th May 2009
