Big Apple Hostel Istanbul in Istanbul, Turkey

Fairly decent accomodation for Istanbul (I stayed in 3 hostels). Improvements could be made. Bit more security on the bedrooms, staff did not seem extremely knowledgeable, and there were no maps at reception. But it was a comfortable bed, and breakfast was enjoyable on the roof terrace, which was very pleasant to relax on in the afternoons. Staff were all very nice but repeatedly lost reservations, and mingled "boys/girls only" rooms. The view from the roof is spectacular (although many hostels in the area have roof decks), but the rooms were VERY hot in summer. Although the website indicates air conditioned rooms, it's only in the private rooms, and the rest of the building doesn't have a ventilation system other than windows. The staff was very friendly and the locaation was right in the middle of everything. The 12 bed dorm room was very hot and had no ventilations. The showers did not drain and smelled of mold. I do not recommend staying in the 12 bed dorm, but the other rooms had windows and were a little cooler and better ventilated. Laura, from USA ~ 13th Jul 2009

Absolutly the best hostel I have been to in Istanbul so far. Quite, sober, value for money hostel in the best part of Sultanamhet. Not high on party inside the hostel, but lots of nice bars in the neighborhood. Eirik, from Norway ~ 22nd Apr 2009
