We stayed in a room 5 mins walk from Termini (Via Carlo Alberto)
The room was clean, quiet and safe. Big double bed and a en suite shower. Covered all the basics and was perfect for returning to after a day out and about.
Best thing about hostel was the location - walking distance to Roman Forum and the Spanish Steps and right by a Metro station (Vittorio Emanuele) that'll get you to the Vatican in 15mins or so.
Ercole recommended some excellent restaurants and locations and the provided map was all we needed to find our way around.
We felt really safe in Rome (safer than native London) and happily walked around late at night. The worst problem were the thousands of street sellers trying to flog off roses, cheap handbags and ridiculous flying disc things (why anyone needs a flying disc thingy in Rome is a mystery!) at all the major tourist attractions.
I would definitely recommend Blue Hostel if you're after a basic yet comfortable room in a central location.

Nice hostel. Charming interior. Most expensive of our trip. Although friends of the owner I don't suggest Cafe Subura. Ercole was very nice.

I love, love, love the Blue Hostel, is very clean and safe. Well located and you can walk from there to many sightseen places.
Hercules was very kind, even carried my heavy bags and met me on the station late at night because my flight was delay.
Great for couples and people who wants to relax after a day of walking in Rome.

my girlfriend & I stayed in blue hostel for 3 nights - we were met at the train station & taken to the hostel, ercole had booked a restaurant for us for the first night, and we were given all the info we needed re; getting around, what to do, the location of the hostel in relation to the sights, etc. even when i got sick on the sunday, ercole arranged for a doctor to come over & came over himself also. it was great to know that this facility was here for us. locationwise the hostel is great, very comfortable, and ercole & his staff couldn't have been more helpful. would recommend to anybody.

POSITIVE: Ercole was a great host. He met me at the train station and told me about places to see in Rome. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was clean and modern.
NEGATIVE: I would not go to this hostel if you are traveling alone because there is no common area to meet people and no front desk. As a single traveler I felt isolated and uneasy my first night since there was no front desk. I only had a phone number to call if I had questions. This is not really a hostel, but insted it is individual rooms at different locations. One night I was in a room by Termini, and the other night I was in a plush appartment by the Colloseum. If you are traveling with another person give this a try, but don't go if you are traveling alone.

Ercole was very accommodating. He met us at the Train station and walked us to the hostel. The location was within walking distance of several attractions (colosseum, pantheon, opera house, and others). We had tickets to the opera and it took us 5 minutes to walk there. Room was very nice, clean and well organized. Hairdryer built into the wall of the private bath was a lifesaver for my firend. No a/c, but we found we did not need it in May as the nights were still cool. However, I would recommend the purchase of one in the future so window does not have to be left open for mosquitos, which fortunately were not present during our stay. Would highly recommend this hostel for those not looking for a party place, but a place to call home base. It is not a harbor for a collegiate drunk fest with loud parties at all hours, which is something we enjoyed. Thank you Ercole for your hospitality!!
