it was a nightmare!!!! quite a difference from the pictures showed. We were very disapointed by the reception and we paid like we were in a hotel room; no recommended at all!!!!

Paid £265 per night for a three bed room, way too expensive for what it was. Shower didn't work, staff weren't the friendliest. Overall it wasn't terrible, but would expect the shower to work and a little more comfort for the price we paid.

Dirty room - not cleaned. Way over priced, I wouldn't pay even half of what we did. The worst customer service I have experienced during my two years travelling through Europe and North America. The accomodation provided is not at all represented by the photos on the web page. If you are lucky enough to read this stay elsewhere. Edinburgh is a great city but hovels like this spoil it.

It was the worst guest-house that I saw 1-There was no towel in the room. I had to ask to have one 2- there was no chair in the room, I asked one because for my work I had to work. They were reaaly surprised. There was no table yet 3- The room was not clean 4-When I was at 7h55 for the breakfast, they told me that it is 8h00. I wait and I took only a tea because there were almost nothing 5- The day after I found the restaurant closed. They indicate (writing by hand and attached to the door) that the breakfast is from 8h30-8h45. I didn't wait and I took my breakfast in a coffee shop
This is the worst place I ever was!!!!! I had to pay 70£ for a room without window, no space beneath the bed, a door that didn't closed really well, a bathroom over the corridor, dirrty bed linnen and a very loud noise in the night so I couln't sleep. And the best thing was, as I wanted a new room, they told me I have to pay for it and I didn't get anithing of my money back. If you read this: Please, don't book a room in this Guesthouse!!! It's horrable!!!

Very disappointing. The welcome was non existant - the owners were busy next door and seemed to neglect this property. The staff on duty were not able to deal with certain matters. The room was just adequate but no toiletries at all and the one towel each needed to be collected from a member of staff on arrival. The breakfast did not include anything cooked. A hefty charge was made for credit and debit cards and as cheques were not accepted, it was necessary to pay in cash to avoid charges. I would certainly not recommend it. By the way, this is the first time I've ever felt the need to criticise accommodation! Other accommodation in Scotland was great!
There is little to be said that is positive. We were glad to move on. Unwelcoming and it occurred to us that little care was put into the business by the proprietors. Breakfast was very poor and obviously sourced from the cheapest stores. People paying full rate didn't seem to get any better.

Stayed at the Carlton House with my brother, my cousin, & two friends for 3 nights to celebrate the New Year in Edinburgh. We were 2 guys and 3 girls. In summary, I strongly do not recommend this place. Pros: - Pick-up service from the airport was provided by the manager. We were picked up on time for 25 GBP. - The room was cozy, the beds were clean, and the bathroom looked like it had been recently redone. Cons: - No one but the manager knew English really well. - The price charged was greater than the price I was supposed to pay (55 GBP pppn). After I brought the price to their attention per the contract I had from the website, the manager brought the price down. - There was an additional 4.5% service charge for using a credit card. I ended up using a debit card, but my friends had to incur this charge to use their credit card. - On our first day, our room was freezing. I was shivering with a jacket on. After we asked the manager to provide additional heating, he brought an electric heater. - The guesthouse is a 45 minute walk from the center of the city (Princes Street). - On our third night, we returned to find our room unmade. There was nowhere to hang our towels whenever we finished washing so we had to put them on the floor for them to be replaced. We went to the front desk with the dirty towels and asked the man manning the desk to bring us clean towels. In response, he barged into our room and started going through our things looking for any towels lying around. I believe he thought we were trying to steal the towels!! He then tried to barge into the bathroom to inspect that room too while someone was in there. After the inspection, he said that he will see what he can do. Half an hour later, since I heard nothing and we needed to shower that night and early the next morning, I went back down to see whether this man was able to find clean towels. When I asked him, he started asking me personal questions. He asked if I was sleeping with any of the girls in the room and if I really wanted the towels to “play with them in bed”! After informing him that we do need them to shower as soon as possible, he told me that he would bring us the towels whenever he can, even if it meant barging into our room at 4am in the morning! I told him that was not acceptable and that I will be expecting to receive the towels in an hour. An hour later, he knocked on my door and as I opened it, he barged into the room. After looking around (and at this point two of the girls and my brother were in their pajamas), he said that I need to give him another hour to get the towel. He again tried to convince me that the best solution would be for him to come into the room using his master key and leaving the towels in the middle of the room in the middle of the night. I insisted that he will have to knock on the door. An hour later to the minute, he brought the clean towels. All this for clean towel! It is pretty sad. - We tried to contact the manager the following day to complain and give us a ride to the train station, as was offered. He was not available and we ended up taking cabs to the train station.
We were expecting a 3 bedroom, but instead got 2 beds, 1 of which was a very small double which was incredibly uncomfortable. The water in the sink was freezing, and the water pressure in the shower was basically non-existent. I'm generally not at all picky, but this was pretty dissapointing.
