Someone stole my clothes and my iPod, and the staff were unwilling to help. The staff also couldn´t give us much (if any) local information about where to go out. Which was rubbish.

When we arrived we were told that Holstelworld.com had failed to update their prices for the new year so we, along with many other guests, were forced to pay double for our stay. We were not given any notice and were therefore unable to make other hostel arrangements (the entire city of Rio de Janeiro was booked for the new year). I am extremely upset about this and have chosen to discontinue my use of Hostelworld.com as well as Hostels.com as a result.

Location was not very good, the showers were never cleaned, the rooms were unbarably hot, mnay people who had payed ended up moving to another hostel anyway just so they could get a good nights sleep-im afraid to say i would not recommend this hostel to anyone

We had serious problems with the manager of the hostel, who created new rules everyday such as not being allowed to eat food in the dining room, or locking the kitchen door so you have to always ask for the key. They didnt have a fridge in the kitchen, although they had another fridge in an alternative kitchen that we werent allowed to use. The manager constantly argued with every guest about how much people had to pay, where you ate food, keeping everywhere completely clean. The maid quit while we were staying and we didnt get our rooms or bathroom cleaned for 4 days and no clean sheets in over a week! Also, even though they had washing facilities we were not allowed to use them or even wash any of your clothes in the laundry sinks!! Also rules about the internet meant that if you are looking up information or hostels with a friend she would charge you twice the price if more than one person actually touched the computer! The rest of the staff were fabulous and really helpful but we were not allowed to just talk with them when the manager is around. The overall feel of the place was awkward and tense when the lady was here as she shouted at her staff and guests constantly. A good place that was ruined by one woman who has no idea about what her guests want or need.
