I can't vouch for the original location but the one in the Lower East Side is brilliant - clean, friendly, cheap for NY, laid back and with an atmosphere conducive to making friends. Don't let the outside of the building put you off - the dorms, bathrooms and kitchen/social area are all fine.

This is not a party hostel and attracts more chilled out folks. If you want a party the younger staff can still point you in the right direction.

Been traveling through s.e. asia for the past few months, so maybe this isn't a fair review/comparison - but, the room was tiny (3 bunk beds crammed into a small room), so there was nowhere to hang out, except for cramming everyone in one room into the top bunks if you wanted to hang out. no common room - and if you buy food you can't eat it anywhere in the hostel, so you're limited to eating at restaurants (or on the cold, cold street) bathrooms were always full, and floors were always kinda wet and dirty. on the bright side, the walls are thick so we didn't get bothered when we partied in out dorm room til late..!!!

Fantastic hostel. Very small, personal and friendly. I was able to come into NYC and do what I needed to do during the day and I had a comfortable bed to come back to at night. Very nice people and guests. Don't come here if you're expecting a party, come here if you need a place to relax after a day of sightseeing or working.

I really enjoyed my time in NYC with you guys! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hostel is really small which makes it easy to get to know everyone that stays there! The location is the best, its just a short walk apart from Pennestation and the Mall of Manhattan.which are right in the middle of Manhattan! The hostel was safe as well. I felt really comfortable to leave my luggage there. I will definetely come back if I go to NYC again!!!
