  • I didn't go to the hostel, as I had cancelled my trip, but I love it and I can never give them a bad review. I am unhappy however because I was not refunded my down payment and no one from hostels.com answered my email.

  • Impeccably clean, phenomenal location, reasonably priced, peaceful. I couldn't have been happier. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • Absolutely no problems at all! The hostel is in the most central point for me to go to all of the places where I always end up when I'm in NYC. I was just up there for a weekend to go to a concert and visit one of my best friends, so being able to get to all of my favorite places quickly was wonderful. I'd definitely stay there again!!

  • Very good price if we consider the location! This hostel is pretty central and the room for 4 people is clean and good. The only low point is the size of locker which is VERY small, but you can use bigger one for $ 3 or $5.

  • The receptionist was great, very nice guy! The ladies at breakfast on the other hand were rude and not at all helpful... The location is OK, not too far from centre, neighbourhood is safe. Our room (ground floor, close to corridor, windows looked out to the street) was super noisy, as we were sightseeing all day, some proper sleep would have been appreciated.

  • This hostel does not correspond to the standards hostels usually fulfill. Everywhere, it smelled like in a hamster cage - simply disgusting. Especially the restrooms are not appropriate. Can't recommend this hostel at all.

  • We stayed in a private double room right next to the street and the noise was loud! Between the people passing by and the other guest coming in at any time of the night, it was hard to get a nice night of sleep. The bathroom was making all sort of noises, which didn't help our sleep either. The common area wasn't really enjoyable and there wasn't enough room for everyone for the breakfast.

  • Awesome place to stay if you like a clean place, close to everything in downtown NYC (meatpacking, soho, chelsea.... even times square). Even shared bathrooms were not a problem. Having wifi is also good. Didnt try the breakfast though.

  • It has great localization, but just like every place in New York, is somewhat expensive even sharing rooms and bathrooms. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they have a little tolerance for lazy bastards like me who get ready to checkout late. The breakfast is pretty simple: a fruit, a bagel with jam and some cereal or juice or coffee. But I wouldn't expect much more from a hostel.

  • I booked this for my mother who is a retired school teacher and travelled all around the world staying in hostels. Her experience has always been wonderful. Unfortunately, she said her experience at the Chelsea was very bad. The bedding has blood stain in them and when she brought it to the staff, they didn't care!!! That was extremely disgusting, so she cancelled her future dates and went back to Princeton NJ, instead of staying in New York.

  • The room was steaming hot and not able to turn down the heat - I dont get it? As there's no air con either I wonder how hot it'll be during the summer.

  • My friend and I needed a place to stay for our visit and refused to pay the crazy hotel nightly rates and we made a great choice! Check in was easy, staff was accommodating, they even had free events and social gatherings for the guests (we didn't make it to any of them). This is a great place to stay for anyone traveling on a budget. The room was obviously small and walls were paper thin but that was no problem for us. The location could not have been better, loved Chelsea! Definiley reccodmend

  • Location's great and the room's are decent. Only complain would be about how bad the wi-fi was.

  • I have stayed at the Chelsea Hostel in the past - some 5 or 6 years ago - and can't complain much. It is a reasonable priced place to stay if you are traveling on a budget; however, it is very, very simplistic. The rooms are minimal and bath/restroom are too. This time I got a room facing 20th Street and it was very noisy. People staying are also very young and, of course, noisy. I guess I just grew old in the past years and since I can afford a better place, I would not stay there again.
