A mixed bag. On the bright side, the staff was friendly, the hostel was spotless, breakfast was good, and the location was convenient. On the other hand, the rates were a little high ($30 is the most I've ever paid for a hostel). I brought my own towel, and the cleaning lady took it away and replaced it with one of their poor quality towels. And the music in the lobby was way too loud and could be heard in the rooms late at night. The guy at the desk said there was no way to turn it down. It is very, very loud at night. The doors don't isolate the noice, passers-by sing in front of your window, the elevators rings loudly every time it stops, other people's cells keep ringing in the dead of the night, and keeps you awake. Absolutely loved staying here. The staff was always courteous and helpful, and there for you 24/7. I was originally going to stay elsewhere on my second night, but decided to stay at the Getaway because of it's convenience, atmosphere, and great location. It's walking distance to Lincoln Park, the Zoo, cheap but good local food and entertainment. I had a wonderful time at this place. My room was very clean, staff was friendly and breakfast delicious. Every Thursday they take guests to bars near the hostel. I was very happy to have great company and have beer at bars that are not at lonely planet guides. It's close to nice places such as the Lincoln Hall and the zoo. I walked to Michigan avenue all the way to Millenium Park... It's a nice walk, but you can also take the subway which is a few blocks from the hostel.
