Dorm at the front was noisy (from students across the road) and cold - you can see the curtains swaying, even when all windows are closed. Sheets on the bed were threadbare but at least they were fresh and clean. Bizarre random artworks on the walls. Hostel was practically empty when I got there, which is never a good sign, but more people arrived while I was there. Location is not TOO bad, it is accessible by the Chicago L system, but is a long ride from downtown. Showers and toilets were fine. Peter, from England ~ 8th Nov 2009

Good location, near Loyola and the Red Line. Kinda eclectic. Not super new or super nice - I have been in nicer hostels, but also some worse. If you are going for as cheap as possible, this is your best bet, if not, go for a different hostel. Great pub within blocks - Hamilton's. Andrea, from USA ~ 10th Nov 2009

I did not end up staying here b/c of the reviews I eventually read. I tried to call and cancel my reservation many times. No one would answer the phone and there was no voicemail. I then sent an email of which they never responded. The non-refundable deposit charged to my account along with a currency conversion fee. This confuses me seeing as how I live in America, paid with the American Dollar, and was paying for Hostel IN America! Dawn, from USA ~ 24th Oct 2009

We booked a 3 bed room but the Hostel was over booked and the guy at the reception wanted to give us a 2 bed room which was way too small for 3 people. That sucks. We couldn't find another hostel or hotel and we had to drive back to Milwaukee. The guy didn't apologize for this and wasn't very friendly!!! Manuel, from Germany ~ 20th Oct 2009

The security here was terrible, the front desk would basically let anyone walk in. The neighborhood is safe because of the university security. The hostel is between two metro stops and is further out of the city, but really the metro ride in allows you some relaxing time. The sheets were thread bear, the floors needed to be swept, and my room was freezing because one wall was all windows. Despite having a reservation they gave away our beds. The staff was nice enough to allow people to sleep Daina, from USA ~ 15th Oct 2009

Not very clean and doors don't lock. Pretty far away from downtown. Has lockout from 10-2 which isn't advertised. Ashley, from Canada ~ 14th Oct 2009

I have stayed at this hostel many times and through many changes of ownership-mainly because of the location and the many amenities of the neighborhood. Last year the experience was most upsetting because of the "renegade" staff members. I returned just now this year because all other hostels were booked and I had to be in Chicago those days. Last year's staff is gone with the exception of one person (who is okay). I was fortunate to encounter a new staff member named Peter K. from Russia. H Donald, from USA ~ 16th Oct 2009
