Was probably a decent place many years ago was really run down. You can lock your door but you don't get a key they keep it at the fron desk. Random homelss guy wondering around lobby, and "parking" in the alley behind the hostel. DO NOT STAY HERE...

We had private room which did not have any hot water. Mgmt was unable to fix and unwilling to adjust bill-just wanted to alter bill to non private bath. Other than a young man who checked us in, who was very friendly, staff was rude and not readily available. No keys available for room, so had to check in at desk, and they were sometimes difficult to find. Sheets looked like they had not been changed. Community shower area was dirty, shower curtains very moldy. At checkout, discovered our tab with our names and identifying info sitting on front counter. Had stayed here a couple of years ago, and very dramatic downward change.

The hostel was fine, a bit out of the way but the CTA was cheap enough, $12 for 3 days as many buses and subway trains. And you have to be out between 11am and 2pm

The hostel was fine, it was nothing special and it was kind of far away from downtown ... The staff is friendly though and the rooms were ok ... they were not super clean but it was fine ... the bathrooms were ok, but not super clean either! ... if you don't mind traveling about half an hour into the city per train it's I guess a cheaper place to stay than living in downtown! (Subway tickets are only two dollars for 2 hours or 5 dollars per day)

Neighbourhood was not as bad as I expected. It is half an hour to downtown, but the Red Line goes frequently and until late. The only security you'll find is that the hostel door can only be opened from the inside, by the 24/7 available staff. Hostel looks like a college dorm and is compareably (un)clean.

This was the worst hostel i stayed at in the US. Its a shame cos it could be good if the management invested money in the building. Its location is'nt good as its about 40 minutes from the city. The security is poor as you have no key cards to get in and out of your room & there is no lockers provided. The area is'nt very nice and seems to be in a poor area (but saying that it is near the river). Drinking is prohibited in the hostel but its virtually impossible to purchase booze anywhere in the locality anyway - even in the supermarket if you dont have a US Passport or a state of Illinos drivers licence!!! They have no promotions or facilitys to encourage socialising with out guests. I loved Chicago as i met a lovely bunch of people there but i would recommend you find another hostel if at all possible. Management you really need to invest some money in your building, buying curtains would be a start.

Chicago Int'l Hostel is nice and roomy. It's close to the metro. The staff (Vanessa) was really nice. I like it there and definitely would go back in the future.

I was disappointed to find that there were no lockers in which to store my valuables. Other than that I was pleased. The facilities were clean, the staff courteous, and the location was just a short walk from the red line.

really very friendly and helpful staff!! the hostal is small, cozy, colourful, with international atmosphere. the common rooms as well as the dorms are nice decorated, in trendy colonial style. however, i was somehow missing the "feeling of community", it was rather individual and anonymous. one minus: there were no wardrobes in the dorms, almost no space to leave the stuff. there are no special security measures, but i didn´t feel any danger of loss or rubbery.
