I don't know waht I would have done if I had not stayed here. I arrived with only five days to find housing no idea how to go about it. Luckily, the staff and other guests at the hostel were extremely friendly, sharing their experiences and knowledge. In fact, the hostel seems to have become a sort home-away-from-home for many other Chocolate Box "Alumni" who began their Taiwan stay at the hostel and come back to meet old friends and help new arrivals. The Chocolate staff were very helpful in helping me with my traveling questions and getting me into the hostel despite my late arrival. The hostel is cozy and very conveniently located. Do not misunderstand the average rating for character - this is an excellent hostel and the staff are extremely helpful. They even helped me to find an apartment in Taipei. However, I strongly recommend that you avoid paying in advance for bookings if you can, as they will not refund any cancelled nights. I originally booked three nights via Hostels.com, but when I arrived I thought that I may need to extend my stay by two days while I looked for an apartment. It turned out - especially with the Simon, from Australia ~ 2nd Mar 2009
