  • This hostel is very unique. It's like inside cave. decoration is nice. It places inside the gate. I mean in the old city. It is really nice to walk around old city. But no cars and taxis can access in front of the hostel. so you have to walk from the gate. If you have a big luggage, it's tough. Some people helped me to bring my luggage.

  • Very nice and beautiful hostel in Jerusalem Old City. Old house, almost troglodyte style. Clean rooms, but the shared bathroom could be more convinient. Staff very kind and helpful. Cash payments only.

  • We were supposed to stay on the roof which was advertised to have a tent to sleep in and such. Once there there was no tent, and all the bedding was soaking wet because they leave their bedding outside at all times. And then the next night when it was pouring, instead of offering us the opportunity just to switch into a dorm for the night given they did not have proper facilities on the roof, they told us we could either sleep on their couches made of stone, or pay more money for a dorm.

  • We were told from the web site that we would be under a dorm tent. When we got there, we were put on the roof sleeping under the stars. The problem was that mosquitos kept biting us and the noise of the city kept us from sleeping all through out the night. The web site does talk about the roof experience but only from "(ON SEASON FROM MAY TO OCT)" so we did not have a good experience.

  • Ideal location, calm, and great style (old stone arches in the lobby, rooftop with a view on the old city's roofs...). Otherwise, not very clean or comfortable, but this is normal for a hostel in this price category... Very unpleasant suprise when we arrived : it was impossible to pay with a credit card, though it should have been according to hostels.com...

  • the first night I there was a strong chemical smell in my room that made me high and gave me a migraine my first day in Jerusalem.... The second night I was attacked by bed bugs, have bites all over my hand and face and found the bugs when I woke up and had to squish them and see my blood squirt out of them. I then spent the whole night (3-9-30am) sitting on a bench horrified and itching sick to my stomach waiting for someone to come and spray the room and sanitize my stuff, they never came.

  • We booked a triple room from hotstel.com but then called citadel hostel to change to a double room. The stuff told us that we could get a double room price and 10% booking fee from hostel.com will be deducted. However, they refused to deduct our booking fee when we arrived...

  • I had a good time at the Citadel, the location is impressive and there is a wonderful panoramic roof. I stood in a double room and it was almost clean. Shared toilets are not very comfortable. Cats are going around and one morning I found a cat s**t in the shower :-( It is good if you care more of the atmosphere that of the confort

  • I stay at the Citadel every year and recommend it to all my friends. A delightful staff, friendly, helpful, very accommodating and always cheerful. The premises may be a bit cramped, but I would't choose to go anywhere else! Many thanks to all of you. See you next year!

  • (+) The location was great, the view from the roof was superb and the staff was friendly and helpful. (-) The refrigerators needed a good cleaning. There was frequently no toilet paper or it had gotten soaked by the showers.

  • Great location, especially the roofterrace is a great place to relax from the lively old town and at the same time enjoying the view over its roof. The dorms are very small which makes it very warm in there even at the end of september, thought they have a fan in it.

  • Staff was reasonably helpful. My room, 1, was like a cave, something like a vent outlet, but not window. 6 beds, very hot and humid. There are other rooms which have windows, make sure you get one of those. You can sleep on the roof for less. I found that out as I was leaving. I would have liked thaton a hot September night without AC. showers and toilet are very small and cramped. Handheld shower heads spray all directions, some are missing. Not bad for price just b aware. Al Jazeera news....

  • very nice hostel! the location on the rooftop is mindblowing. you wake up and see the dome of the rock, nice. but you should get used to very early church bells/muezzins and the sun heating up like crazy from 7 on. the kitchen was small, but very good. very small bathrooms, strange distribution of the rooms, but you will find at least a sink everywhere, and even if the hostel was nearly full,i never had to wait too long. internet only in reception room, place for 10 people. Very Recommendable!

  • Nice place. quite original. great terasse with great view on the rooftop. yet aircondition is missing ! in summertime very hot at night (i would recommend to ask for a room in the lower levels (basement), it's much cooler there because it's an old building.

  • The dorm rooms were really crammed, with really no place to put your stuff if it didn't fit under the beds (which nobody's did) and there was no key to the room, so anyone could walk in if they wanted to. The kitchen was useful but it would've been nice to have more utensils, such as bowls or kitchen gloves! The location, however, cannot be beat, and overall the atmosphere in the hostel was great. Some of the staff were helpful, and they were all friendly. For its price, I would recommend it :-)
