City Plaza Hostel in Cairo, Egypt

Not a bad hostel, but probably not the best value in Cairo either. The staff is friendly but really wants to sell you their trips to Luxor, Assouan, the pyramids, etc. which becomes a bit annoying after a while. The room in which I was was small, other rooms seem nicer. There is a small common room where you can take your breakfast. The building is a bit old but the location is quite good, in the center of Cairo, 10 min walk away from midan El-Tahir. Tranfert from/to the airport is offered for 6 Basile, from France ~ 10th Sep 2009

I am in inexperienced Hosteler, and this was my first trip to Egypt. Because of that, it was so relieving and refreshing to find City Plaza. Everything was really clean,simple, relaxing and the bed was comfortable. It was close to everything especially Egyptian museum and the metro station. Pretty okay hostel. If only they would have enough cash in the front desk lobby to provide sufficient change for you when you pay. I had to pay the front desk in American dollars one instance when I had asked for transportation from the hostel to the airport. I had to pay in dollars because they did not have sufficient amount of egyptian pounds to give me the right change. When I paid with American dollars. walid at city plaza Hotel was very helpful with everything... bus tickets, airport pickup, recommendations, tours of pyramids, etc... The hotel was very clean and also the bathrooms. Would recommend staying here mayia, from USA ~ 19th Jun 2009

The hotel itself is clean and nice for the price you pay. And the staff is helpful and not pushy about selling you on any of their tours or services. The only caveat is that the building that the hotel is located in is not great. A couple of times the elevator was not working and I had to walk up the six flights. The stairwell had stray cats, there were broken windows, and it was kind of gross. But note that the stairwell is not part of the hotel premises. The hotel premises were fine. as other comments had said getting to hostel is not the best expierence but once there is is really good. the staff cannot do enough for you. i met some wonderful people and walking outside at night is both safe and really something. i would stay here again. heather, from Canada ~ 26th Apr 2009
