I found the Collingwood hostel to be very close to shops and/ restaurants and close to the city. It mostly had long term people staying- who where friendly and welcoming. Staff helpful with knowledge/ directions on area. I felt the bathrooms/areas needed to be cleaned more frequently. Overall happy with my stay.

Paul rules! I can see why everyone that has stayed here has came back and not gone to another hostel in Melbourne. I have been there twice and this time i was there for a month
met nice people, incl owner and manager paul. easy-going atmosphere that makes u feel comfortable, of course. not a mainstream, touristy hostel. more for the working crowd. i liked it.

If u are a "working" backpacker, than this hostel is simply perfect. It has a very cosy feeling, similar to that of a student dormitory. However, if u are a traveling backpacker, this hostel is less ideal. It is relatively far away from the center compared to some other hostels, and as all the inhabitants are working, it is not so easy to find someone to hang out with and explore the city.
