Coolibah Lodge in Perth, Australia

This was one of the worst hostels I have stayed in. The kitchens are filthy. There was nothing to start the stove with which made cooking difficult. When brought to the attention of the staff they simply said find someone with a lighter to help you. Also, there was no cutlery at any time so eating was a treat. Dishes were piled up until the next morning. It was a mess. The rooms were never kept locked and when brought to the attention of the staff they said yea, not a lot of people lock the room

Hmm. was this this hostel? We have staff on duty 24/7, we have ample supplies of gas lighters for stoves. Any dishes that guest fail to wash are washed-up by night staff. There is sufficient cutlery for everyone, the kitchens are cleaned several times daily. There are occasions when someone breaks a key in a lock, and we have to change the lock guests are informed and supplied with new key, if guests are out at time a note is left on room door. The Hostel is located in Northbridge, yes some of our backpacker guests do go out clubbing and come back late, they are asked to keep quiet. Our staff are trained and chosen for their helpfulness. The comment that our kitchens are filthy amounts to defamation, regular local council inspections have found no such state of affairs.

Get a great night sleep as its just on the edge of the nightlife, dont plan on carrying 10 bags of shopping up the slight hill to the lodge though. Everyone is really friendly...some have been there for a long time!! Claire, from England ~ 3rd Feb 2009
