  • If you're looking for a hostel where you can have a quick and easy stumble back from the party at 3am, this is your place! If you want a restful night of sleep, try elsewhere.

  • The rooms are very cold due to the lack of insulation on the windows. I think it's a big problem, because the hostel would be much better for everyone if it wasn't that cold. I think some cutleries and plates should be exchanged for better ones as well. The kitchen window is not good either. All the windows should be insulated in the whole building. The bed was OK. Robert

  • We paid 42.50 for a room and giving my time again we would have stayed where we went previously which was Smart City Hostel which is around the corner and is so much nicer and cleaner. This Hostel does the job but I can't imagine I'd ever go back.

  • The location was good and the staff were really friendly. However, it is one of the most bizarre hostels I have ever stayed in. To get to the dorm rooms, you have to leave the building and enter through a separate door. There were no elevators and the stairs were really worn. There was broken glass in the stairwell. Wifi is only available in the common room of the building where reception is. We stayed there right after New Years so the prices were outrageous. Not bad, but not great.

  • Having read other comments here, I must say that the hostel was clean and cleaned often. I stayed in Sept 13-16th. It is true that it doesn't have lockers nor individual lights. It is also true that the pub opposite is very noisy. It is however a good value for money, great location and the staff is superfriendly and helpful. The kitchens are well equipped. The common room could be bigger and could have facilities (no loo after check-out). Overall I was happy with Cowgate.

  • Enjoyed my stay very much got a new room after some disturbance that kept me up. The hostel was in a fun location close to the royal mile and Edinburgh castle. Staff was so helpful, thanks front desk for your extended courtesy. Enjoyed seeing Edinburgh sights and the fringe which was exciting. Would stay again just love the showers. Security was fine.

  • Proper hostel and good location, but the guy at the desk was quite unfriendly. Also very expensive for a simple hostel.
