Need to pay for internet, that's a great shame, like in most of the hostels... But nice hostel anyway, kitchen really clean with spices and rice/pasta for free, spa pool, possibility to organise activities at the reception.. nice place to stay.

We stayed in different hostels during our trip in both the north and south island and this is our favorite one. The staff went above and beyond.

Crash palace was awful. The staff seemed hungover and unprepared when we arrived, claiming to be run off their feet, by 6pm the staff hadn't had a chance to get to our room. Our double room was part of a prefab building that shook any time people in either adjoining rooms closed their doors. The walls were paper thin which didn't help. There was no soap in any of the bathrooms and ants were crawling around the sink and faucet on the morning we left. Doubles are a bit hit and miss in all

Free pasta/rice, and abundance of herbs and spices make cooking a breeze - really appreciated. Cat and 2 dogs add to the warm character. Beds were relatively comfy - it was the easiest top bunk bed to ever get into/off. Shawn, from Malaysia ~ 7th Jun 2011

A really nice place and helpfull staff, great for the price! + free pasta/rice + coffee and tea and spices! I totally recommend this place! Aino, from Finland ~ 12th May 2011

Nice place with garden, tvroom and hot pool. Feels more like a home than a hostel, clean and very nice kitchen. Downers is that the owner plats techno all day long and he can be quite grumpy. One cat that is not very nice and a few nice dogs :) emma, from Sweden ~ 8th May 2011

Something of a "stock hostel". The only thing that really stood out to me was that the ratio of toilets and showers to maximum occupants was perhaps the lowest I've seen at any accommodation at which I've stayed. Overall, it was fine, but if I were to do it over, I'd probably stay at one of the better-equipped hostels closer to the town center.

It got a bit loud at night when people would come back from the town so I did not get to sleep very well. Other than the neighbor rooms and their loudness I enjoyed the place. Lindsey, from USA ~ 11th Apr 2011

All the staff were helpful and polite and the animals were a bonus. Adele, from England ~ 30th Mar 2011

With all the other options in Rotorua, it's nice to find one close, but not on the main drag. Quiet, clean and not overly pushy with the tourism. Lisa, from USA ~ 26th Mar 2011
