Not clean actually. During rain water goes through all floors and elevator shaft. Bad security - they are not responsible for things and private room is cleaned by strangers.
Hotel is located on Sydney's Redlight street. That was not bad actually.
A lot of entertainment in hotel. Good roof lounge. But it causes a lot of drunk neighbors (but no problems happend). If you like to drink and fly - this is a hotel for you.
Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. The hostel is cleaned many times daily, common areas 2-4 times daily, and rooms every day. Those who clean the rooms may be strangers to you, but the dlux staff knows them, they work daily for their accommodation. And I'm surprised you were bothered by them, as you always had your "do not disturb" sign on the door, and could not have had it cleaned much.
We have a key card security system, required to enter rooms, and the hostel after 9am.
Water does not go through the elevator shaft, not sure where you got that idea from.
Also, we have a no refund policy, yet the manager was nice enough to refund your money when you decided to check out early. Hide Owner CommentsRead Owner Comments Artem, from Russia ~ May 14 2009

The staff here treat you like you are unwelcome children. rude and obnoxious (some at least, but not all - you know who you are reception lady... lighten up, you work in a HOSTEL)
do not expect any peace in the rooms, at 10 AM EVERY DAY people come in to clean the bathrooms, not 1, not 2... one day we counted 8 different trips into the room in order to clean the shower walls and the sink.
dont get me started on the lift (switched off at 10PM in a 7 storey building)
stay elsewhere

they took our A/C and never gave it back. it was constantly loud, and dealing with the hookers and harassing strip club guys was a pain in the ass.
Hi Michael, sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. If an air conditioner needs fixing, of course we need to take it away to fix it. You should have asked reception to switch you to a room with AC if you were not happy. As far as feeling harassed on the street, we advertise on hostelworld that we are in a "lively night club area and red light district," so you should have been aware when you made the booking. We stayed for 8 nights at this place in one of the double rooms on the 7th floor. The room was great, big, clean and offered lots for the little money it costs. But every night other guests partied on the balcony, which is located on the same floor. And because the balcony is very small the continoued to party in the hallway right in front of our door all night long. We complaint repeatetly but nothing changed. On the last night someone smoked in the hallway under a smokedetector and set off th

We stayed in the 6th floor and didn't hear any noise. Probably on the 7th floor it will be different because of the balcony that attracts a lot of smokers and drinkers. But we we're happy with the place.

The elevator was broken and I was on the 6th floor.
Hi Nathan,
Sorry for the inconvenience, but the lift always does get fixed within a 24 hour period, so it would not have been broken for your entire stay. Hide Owner CommentsRead Owner Comments Nathan, from USA ~ Mar 15 2009

I watched someone get arrested for stealing someone's bag, the poorly ventilated kitchen was always messy and sinks crammed with dirty dishes, cockroaches, very difficult to use the phone, expensive internet, when I asked a question I was told to "look on the website," stuffy room, little interaction between guests, no activities, my room-mates brought guys to their beds at night and kept us awake, carpets stained.....
Hi Sofia,
Sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. Actually, when this person had a bag go missing, we did find it. There was an arrest on the street outside of our hostel, which was a separate, unrelated matter.
We do have ventillation fans and windows in the kitchen. It is cleaned twice daily, however, between those cleaning times, we cannot account for inconsiderate people who do not clean up after themselves. Yours is the first complaint of cockroaches; I live in the hostel and have never seen a cockroach in the kitchen.
Our internet is the standard rate in Sydney. If you thought it was expensive, you could have visited one of our partner travel agencies which offer free internet, and are only a few minutes from us.
If the room was stuffy, that is why all rooms have air conditioners, and you could have also opened the window.
If someone wants to have a social time, Dlux is definitely the place for it--our guests are generally very friendly, often hanging out on the rooftop, 1st floor common rooms, even in reception. We have activities every night, posted on a board in reception (which your welcome paper would have told you). Each night our entertainment manager takes guests to different bars/clubs in the area, with free entry, at least 1 free drink, often free food. We also have weekly soccer, and sometimes boat cruises. So if you try, there's plenty of ways to get involved and have a great time at Dlux!
If roommates brought guys home and you were not comfortable, again, reception should have been told and we could moved you to a more suitable room. As for the carpets, they are vacuumed every day or two. Better luck with future hostels! Hide Owner CommentsRead Owner Comments Sofia, from Canada ~ Feb 17 2009

The staff were a mix... some very nice and pleasant, others were short in manner, and felt like homophobic derogatory comments in the lobby were fine. The frat party atmosphere was not what I was there for but it was easy to escape to my room and get away from that. Otherwise, very clean, most staff was very nice and all were very accomodating, and the location was great.
Hi Matthew,
I'm sorry about how you interpretted comments you heard here. We have both gay and straight staff and guests. Most everyone here gets along great and people often joke around, which I'm sure is what you overheard.
