Great hostel, I would stay here again. Not only were rooms and bathrooms kept very clean, the staff were really helpful and the atmosphere was really friendly. I enjoyed my stay.

one staff member was fantastis, the other not so much. he made me make my own bed at midnight because there was a mix-up on my bed. minor annoyance, but not appreciated.
the people i met here were lovely and the place is nice. it was convenient to the capitol hill area, which is where i needed to be for a conference. i would stay here again.

DC Lofty on 7th Street NE was one of my best hostel experiences ever! I met some of the most fun, interesting, and bright people there. We, who were strangers before meeting, stayed up until early morning talking each night. There were people from each continent, of all ages, and such interesting educational backgrounds. The only downside is that the hostel is located about two blocks too far northeast for walking at night. The place is very clean!!! I would definitely stay there again!!

My friend and I stayed at the Lofty for only a few days, and we found it very pleasurable! Simple rules to follow: keep things clean, maintain quiet hours, smoke outside. The beds were especially great! We spent long days walking & at conferences, so a comfy bed was greatly appreciated. Mike helped us out & was really great at suggesting places to go out. If I'm ever back in the area, I will definitely use this hostel!

Though I realize that the DC Lofty is aimed at people staying a longer period of time, it would be useful for those people staying only a few nights if there was information about the area and the local transportation system posted somewhere for access when Tom isn't around. A map of DC showing where the hostel is, and something with info about the surrounding area - like coffee shops, restaurants, stores and how to get to the nearby bus stations - would be especially useful.

thanks a lot, really helping other folks out. We do refill on the maps, but sometimes they don't come on time =( and they are then out.
also, we are still in downtown area - just on the EAST side of it.

a nice and relaxed place! Staff is really friendly and funny, kitchen(perfectly epuipped) and bathrooms were very clean and the five to ten minutes walk to union station was easy!Feels more like staying at a friends house than the classic "hostel".

Very causy and lovely hostel. The location is not optimal, but if you do not mind to go the U.S. Captiol in 25 minutes it is quiete good.
I really recommend it!
