I had a lovely ensuite room with tv all for a very reasonable price really close to Union Square and with free internet access. Really glad I stayed there. Only bad points are having to go across to a sister hostel to get breakfast and use laundry.

Very nice hostel with clean rooms and a lot of character. We had a nice view too! Great price for a private room, specially considering we had a TV, fridge and a microwave in our room. The staff was more helpful at the adelaide hostel though. Overall, it was a very nice stay and I would definitly go back again and recommend it to friends.

We really didn't know what to expect when we heading towards San Fran and then we got such a great room in a great location. We walked everywhere, which is what we love doing, it was fun and interesting to head over to the Adelaide Hostel for breakfast and we were really impressed with the everything from the staff through to our room being cleaned every day! Bonus! Thanks we will definately stay again if and when we head to San Fran!

The Dakota was fantastic,great location in downtown san francisco,I got a beautifull room withTV Microwave and fridge at a great price,I would certainly stay at the Dakota again on my next visit to San Francisco.

Single Room Review
This place has a very good location, though it is pretty loud around the clock. Also I heard strange sounds from the heater that wouldn't stop. A big downer is the cleaniness. I found many hair on the bottom and in the bathroom.
If your looking for a place around $70 bucks downtown I guess its OK:

The first night I stayed I was bitten by bugs in my bed and was covered in big itchy bites. When I told the morning staff she said they would get someone to look at the room. That night I could smell they had sprayed my room, but again I was bitten that night. The next morning I requested a new room and was told when I got back I could move to another room. When I did return my stuff had already been moved (and wasnt even packed up by myself). Afternoon staff at front desk didnt seem interedted or very helpful at all.

I booked a room for my son who was spending a couple of days in the city. He enjoyed the stay and thought the accommodations were great. However, I contacted the hostel several days before his arrival to arrange for pre-payment (faxed a copy of my credit card, driver's license, and a letter of authorization) and was told that everything was in order so his room would be pre-paid. When he arrived, he was told that that wasn't the case and he had to pay out of pocket which was most inconvenient for both of us.
If there is not a plan/policy in place for this type of transaction, it should be explained up front.
This was most disappointing for us.

We really enjoyed the service and cleanliness. The view was great! Our only complaint was the mattress was really horrible, springs through the back, but that was our only complaint. Thank you for the affordable place to stay!
