The fire exit door was broken, couldn't open it from the inside. Could be very serious if something happens. The staff were quite rude and not welcoming at all.

poor service in general, they are not prepared to give you any basis tourist information. worst bathroom i've ever seen (when they say shared bathroom, they mean a bathroom with one bath tub and one toilet for the entire floor, not many showers in one bathroom for everybody). the bed do clings. the mattresses are really old. it's not close to the subway and the area is not very nice.

Plenty of space in the rooms, large bathroom, close to nice surroundings. But nowhere to hang out and meet other travelers, which makes this place quite dull. Cleanliness: Not very clean, but i have seen a lot worse.

I discovered a security issue that I'd like to share. Late one night I was tiptoeing into my room trying not to wake my roomates. In doing this I accidentally left my keys in the lock. When one of the men in the room left next morning I and another man were trapped in the room. Would have been nasty if there'd been a fire. Recommend that all room locks be openable from the inside! Dexter House Hostel is your average hostel. The location was great, close to just about every transportation route i.e. bus and train. As for the hostel it self, the rooms were clean but the air condition did not work well. The filter might need cleaning. Each pod (about 5 rooms) had its own security key and room key. The front desk had a security camera, therefore, I felt very safe. The bathroom should have had a trash can, paper towels and hand soap. Some of the guest did not place the shower curtain in the tub prior to taking a shower. The floor was always wet. (maybe a notice should go up to remind the guest that the shower curtain should be placed in the tub prior to taking a shower). FLOOR SLIPPERY WHEN WET!!!!!!. There are garbage cans in each floor stair well without lids. The oder was awful and the smell would hit you once you left your pod or getting off the elevator. Management, empty the garbage cans every day and keep lids on each can at all times. As a whole the Dexter House Hostel was a plus. I'll give it an 85% rating. Week-end of June 27-29

Nice hostel. Some things were better than I expected. Much better. I would book it again, if only I don't find a hostel at 42 street at the same price:)

The man who checked us in late at night was a bit rude but the staff in the morning were nice and helpful. The bathroom was quite unclean and the corridor outside our room had a bad stench outside it. Location quite good.
