  • They have rooms which are in the house next door. This second house is not beautiful. Also, the students who live in this hostel are somewhat rude and tired of tourists.

  • Booked a month in advance and 4 days before I was set to arrive there they emailed me that they overbooked. Now, mind you, I BOOKED A MONTH IN ADVANCE. The reason that they booted me and my companion is that we paid the listed price of $15/night a month before. Coming up to spring break more people began booking and paying higher prices. The sad part? I verbally, through email and on FB talked to the manager and he guaranteed beds for me. Completely unreliable.

  • Unfortunately, though the guys working there seem very nice, they were pretty unorganized. Though the place is beautiful, there are loose doorknobs with missing locks, toilet paper holders falling off the wall, etc. There are also some people who seem to be staying there long term who were VERY obnoxious, yelling down the stairs to people while others were sleeping, smoking, and just being plain rude. They're the reason I only stayed two nights instead of four. Still haven't gotten a refund.

  • Although the Diplomatic Stay is not reachable with the metro, a bus stop is right infront of the house and there's about every 10min a bus leaving/coming (it very cheap and you need just about 5-6min to the Columbia Hights metro station!). It is clean, there's hot water, no bed bugs, nice and outgoing people, wireless,... It's definetly more worth the money!

  • Yes, the pictures are real. The house is beautiful. Definitely going back. Another post I read said that this hostel was disorganized, but they've figured out a lot of the logistics now - they had a credit card machine, and check-in was easy. There's a bus stop literally one block away and it's about 30 min by bus to get to the museums at the Mall. Also, there's a shopping area right down the road - lots of places to eat and buy clothes/groceries.

  • Diplomatic Stay is a beautiful house in an excellent area of DC. It's a B&B experience at hostel prices. The house furnishings and general atmosphere are outstanding. There's a bike share a block away in front of a cafe with great food and Rock Creek Park is adjacent. The park has a creek and wooden bridges, a nature preserve and bike and hiking paths. Diplomatic attracts some great fellow travelers, I couldn't be more pleased with my stay!
