Brilliant stay of five nights. Super location in Hutong area with stacks of character. Short walk to lama temple and short bus hop to all the main central areas. Staff could not have been more charming and helpfull. Have taken a stack of Hostel cards to pass to all our friends!

Arrived at 12pm and called as taxi driver could not find hostel - person that answered the phone could only speak Chinese and Portugese!! Walked around city centre for two hours looking for a driver that could find hostel - best to take taxi direct from airport with english speaking driver. Hostel has a lot of character yet beds are extremely hard. If you want a good night sleep opt for the deluxe room.

The 'hotel', which doubles up as a hostel is beautiful, a real traditional place located in a 'Hutong' (old town area) 30 minutes walk from all the main tourist attractions. The subway is 10 minutes away and buses run past the end of the street regularly. The staff are increadibly friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to help you. The place itself is quite new and not really geared towards 'backpackers'. During my stay here I was not invited to use the kitchen, was told there were no security lockers and had to find the internet and communual room myself, although this may have been a language problem, I would advise you ask to be directed to all the facilities upon arrival, as this could be rectified immediately. The hotel itself is very clean with lots of staff on hand should you request hot water for tea, fresh towells or your room swept. The only other downside is that the dorms are situated on the first floor at the front of the building, which is also the most unattractive part of the hostel, so you have no courtyard to sit outside and none of the traditional features single and double room guests have. However, If you want somewhere to stay that is totally authentic and a great retreat from the bustle of Dongcheng and Beijing then this pladce is fantastic value and well worth a visit. I stayed for a week and had a great time practising Mandarin and enjoying the area and all it's amazing food and increadibly friendly people.

Towels, soap, shampoo, hot water, air conditionning, free internet access, very warm welcome. Just a little warning for the location: hard to find (very small street: Dongsi 4, same as a Police station).

We had a very enjoyable 7 nights here. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke English; they even made restaurant reservations for us. In terms of fun, its more like a hotel than a hostel. If its a dance floor and an after hours bar your after - look elsewhere. This is one of our favourite places we've come across so far. Security?? There are TWO police stations on the same little hutong, one either side.....the street is pretty safe. The location of the hostel is good, be carefull you dont go looking up and down Dong si shi tiao lu (10th street), you need Dong Si Si Tiao Lu (4th street) - dont under estimate the 'h' like we did - its not a typo! Rooms are clean and big, beds are comfy and the location is quiet. Its in a courtyard design and we were looked after really well. Apart from an extra light bulb in the toilets and perhaps more regular cleaning of the toilets - this place is top notch value for money.

The hostel just recently started (Oct. '06)! Unfortunately there is no breakfast service. Staff is friendly and speak some English. Nicely located in a real hutong.
