This dump is an absolute shithole.Bed bugs! The bathroom had no door, smelled like vomit, and was absolutely filthy. No hot water. There were lockers in our rooms, but most of the locks were broken.Sheets weren't clean.Hallways and stairwells smelled like piss. You'd be better off sleeping in the street.DO NOT EVER GO HERE! This hostel is ideal for the following: afforadable, downtown location, blankets are basic but warm, a big screen tv in the kitchen/living room with maybe 5-10 channels (bring movies), free internet with 2 computers but internet signal strength can be weak. Suggestions to visitors: bring a lock for a decently spacious lockers in the dorm rooms, bring your own town tower for body size, breakfasts include muffins, coffee with whitener (no milk), shower shoes, shampoo/conidtioner. Not a place to feel comfortable over a few days. This is a place to sleep before getting on a train the next morning and only if you get stuck having to wait in Toronto !Otherwise pick another Hostel if you are about to spend a few days in Toronto. Not very well trained staff at check-in, then the ones that are experienced did not do much to correct the earlier mistakes of the rookies.Everyone seemed competent in collecting the money though ! No control by staff over who is occupying which bed Kam, from Canada ~ 3rd Aug 2011

This hostel seems to have a different atmosphere to most hostels I have stayed in. It feels more like a place for people moving to Toronto, until they find their own homes, than for travellers. Its very close to downtown. Daniel, from Australia ~ 10th Jun 2011

Extremely bad beds, bad air and little hot water. Would not recommend anyone to come here. Needs renovation badly. Sorry Tommy, from Norway ~ 30th Apr 2011

I booked the downtowner at 3pm on Good Friday. Had I been a little more organized I'd have heeded the warnings in reviews of this hostel and booked somewhere else. However given my predicament - book downtowner vs be homeless for the night - I think I made the right decision. Bare wiring, terrible mattreses, torn carpets, stale smells and heavily outdated and overused furniture abound: the downtowner does not come recommended for anyone other than the most desperate traveller.
