  • Excellent place to stay. Great location for museums and monuments in the day and for evening activities also up on U street.

  • This hostel was very accomodating in a gentrifying area, relatively close to the attractions north of the mall. The dormitory contained large lockable cabinets (bring your own lock), suitable for a big athletic bag. The kitchen was small, but adequate. The bathrooms were almost immaculate. The staff was friendly and easygoing and mixed with us. The travellers were a great bunch of really varied people and the atmosphere was congenial and low key.

  • $25 is not a lot of money for a night in DC but the rooms are mostly 12 bed and very small. There are not enough bathrooms on the sleeping floors and there is not even a mirrow in the rooms. It is pretty clean and the staff are helpful. You can get tired of the free pancakes every morning, toast and jam would be better. Some rules are pretty strict (no shoes, light turns off at around 11pm, ...). The hostel is probably better than its neighbor hostel but not as good as HI (two blocks down).

  • The breakfast was lousy and the guy in charge of preparing it (August 6)was neither friendly nor helpful and concentrated on reading his book. This was a sharp contrast with the other members of the staff who were extremely courteous and helpful

  • This is a long delayed review, by more than 6 months. But I want to say that I spent a very good time there. The property manager is very straightforward (a must given the variety of clients' expectations), albeit very helpful (a result of his kindness, not a must). In my case, my suitcase had a broken wheel (a pain in the neck when you are away), and he helped my first lending me tools to try to repair it, and then showing me a good place to buy a cheap carrier on which to put my dead suitcase.

  • Very nice facilities, extremely well maintained. Nice common areas and a good way to meet new people. Within walking distance of the mall and close to the metro. I would definitely stay here again!

  • Probably is fine for a short stay but not for a longer one. Metal beds are wobbly creaky and noisy, lots of rules and fines posted everywhere leads to a bad atmosphere. Not enough toilets and co-ed rooms so not many places to change... (just 1 lav on the 2nd floor for ~40 people? make that one lav into 2 stalls and loose the padded seats). Nice decks, but kind of dangerous for splinters and nails esp. since shoes are left downstairs. Some nice staff, some need more coffee in the morning.

  • The place was clean and the amenities were nice. (breakfast and Sunday BBQ). The staff was bland and showed no interest in socializing with guests. Location was a little sketchy. Little pricey for having to share a room for 11 other people.

  • I'm very grateful I was indoctrinated into the DC Hostel experience with Duo. The staff were enthusiastic and cordial and fun. Save for Mark, the house administrator. A fun and colorful character, he brought the necessary dessert to the entire experience. It was run by a perfect fusion of business and pleasure attitudes. The location was perfect. East coast individuals have a distinct and often cold, callous attitude, but the Duo housing experience provided a nice evening reprieve and rest.

  • Location was not the best but the hostel itself was very nice. Breakfast was always pancakes and that was kinda tiring. The free sunday BBQ was great, the best of all. All facilities were very clean, especially the bathrooms (big plus). It was a nice experience so if you don´t care about walking a little or taking the bus to get to the touristic area, this is one of the best hostels to stay in DC.

  • quite clean and new. Wi-fi is also good. But the hostel is very tiny and little room for each parson to keep baggage. So I feel mentally tired, a little uncomfortable and unsafe. So I don't recommend you to stay for a long time, but since this hostel is very clean, it is not bad to stay for a while.

  • It was a very nice hostel, clean and well located (10-15 min walking from downtown). It didn't have enough lockers in the main room, and the rooms of 4 beds didn't have lockers that was kind of impractical... The manager wasn't such a nice person, but most of the staff were. You have to take off your shoes before entering the building. It had nice terraces and common spaces. I would recommend it and I would stay there again. I met nice people.

  • I had never stayed at a hostel and Mark and his crew made it the best experiance I have ever had!!!! I felt safe and welcome from the time I walked in the door!! All the other guests were respectful and easy to talk with!!! I am older than almost all the other guests but that did not matter!! I would reccomend to any age!!
