East Side Hostel in Budapest, Hungary

If you choose this it for its amazing location, don’t: the common practice is to overbook the hostel and send the tourists in other apartments.The biggest issue we had was the parking.They say that they have parking.That is a lie.You need to park on street in public parking.We followed the EXACT instructions from the hostel but we ended with 4500HUF wasted and 3 parking fines.When we asked at the hostel about the last fine, the guy got really angry &he THREATENED TO BEAT us.He ruined our stayi

Dear Florin Coros, With all due respect, we at East Side Hostel disagree with your version of events presented in this comment. Please allow us to set the record straight: 1) It is NOT our practice to overbook the hostel. In the middle of summer we are very busy, and when new guests arrive who had not previously booked on Hostelworld.com, we sometimes must move them to other nearby accommodations. All Hostelworld.com guests have priority in these cases whenever possible. 2) If you look at the East Side Hostel microsite on Hostelworld.com under "Facilities", it very clearly states "Parking: On Street". It appears that you are the one telling a "lie" here, which casts doubt on the truthfulness of the rest of your comments. 3) Our staff went out of their way to try to help you figure out how to pay for your parking using the street parking machines; you are the one who parked on a different street than the one that you paid for, causing you to be fined. Most Budapest visitors can figure this system out on their own. As for your assertion that you were physically threatened, this is another lie. We here at East Side Hostel wish that you had enjoyed your stay, but we cannot take all of the blame for your not being able to handle your own vehicle in a major metropolis - most of our guests bringing cars do not have these problems. Great place, with excellent staff and really close to the Parliament building. Unfortunately it was REALLY hot and the others in the room did not want to leave the "terrace" door open. Also, I got bed bugs, but the person I was with did not. Danielle, from USA ~ 4th Jul 2009

Great hostel, really small (only 2 rooms and a living room) but very cozy. The staff was incredibly helpful, telling us everything about the city. Location was almost perfect too, right next to the Parlament and near two underground stops to go to other parts of the city. MANUEL, from Spain ~ 13th May 2009
