El Hashimi Hotel - Hostel

The newly renovated HaShimi Hotel stands monumentally in the heart of the Old City. We have double, family & dormitory rooms, all with private bathrooms. The building itself is over 400 years old! But you wouldn't know it once you're inside....

I felt cheated. I had reserved a room with air conditioning and private bath for six nights and got neither. The door didn´t have a lock, at first. When I checked out the next AM after a sleepless night, they tried to charge me for all six nights even though they didn´t live up to their end of the bargain. I ended up paying too much for one night but was glad to get out of the claustrophic location. It was an unplesant experience. I don´t recommend this place.

One of the staff was a little interrogating to me because I was seen holding hands with my girlfriend. This is not a crime and is not against any regulation of the hotel. So why the interrogation? (I was not sharing a room with her - he should have checked before making assumptions)

Loud street noises reach the rooms. Need thicker curtains to keep out bring morning light. Need to develop possibility to pay using credit cards. It is difficult for groups to use, if have to make a large group payment for rooms by cash only. Otherwise, we really enjoyed this hostel. Thank you!

I loved the roof top seating overlooking the best of old jerusalem but I checked out prematurely because I was attacked by bed bugs!

Fresh breakfasts and a great rooftop view! The staff was helpful and accommodating. Our bathroom needed rennovation (a corner of the ceiling had mold damage!) However our space was otherwise spotless, and they are already in the midst of updating rooms.

It is very important to know that there is NO THREE BED FEMALE DORM. You could be forgiven for thinking there is, as the availability of a three bed female dorm has been advertised for six months that I know of. Nevertheless, there is ONLY an eight bed female dorm. And being a Muslim hostel, there are no mixed dorms. Some staff are very kind and charming. My experience was mixed and I think the hospitality here is a bit of a hit and miss affair.

The staff was VERY helpful and accomodating. It is excellent value for the price. I would definitely recommend it to others.
