I really didn't like this place. I chose it because it has a really high rating but I don't know why that is. For an extra dollar, you can stay in a really nice room in a newer hostel in Phnom Penh. The rooms were empty, just a few mattresses on the floor. Wouldn't recommend it. Emily, from Australia ~ 14th Feb 2012

Very simple. The dorms are futon-like mattresses laid on the floor, but they're comfortable. Each bed has it's own fan and mosquito net which keeps you cool at night - better than a/c. Cold, but clean shower. The only social area is a few tables on the sidewalk with a fridge of cheap beer for sale, but it always had a great atmosphere and was easy to meet people. The owner is friendly and helpful. There is always a security guard outside at night to watch the place and let you in. Overall it w Christopher, from USA ~ 18th Apr 2012

I didn't feel very welcomed or was met with a blank stare when I asked questions about the area. The service was very standard and the room was below my expectations. The location is a bit of a walk from the busy central area of the river so I felt a bit vulnerable walking on my own at night to the hostel. Overall, the hostel was a disappointment. The owner is nice and helpful. However, this place does NOT have free breakfast as advertised... also, Encounters Hostel is the same as Nomads Hostel, but two profiles exist on here for the same place, which I find a bit odd. The sign reads Nomads Hostel. If there hadn't been someone out front who asked if I was looking for Encounters, I probably would have wasted some time trying to find it.
