Warning there is no parking! they mean street parking so good luck. The owner and people were great! and an ex tibettan monk works there so it was totally cool. Clean and comfortable, definitely would stay htere again. In a good part of town and i found reasonable parking on 118th street up a few blocks. really close to the subway so amazing. The picture that shows in hostels.com is fake. Yes, it is... the place is actually underground. I have stayed in many hostels but have never seen anything so expensive and trashy. They were fully booked when we got there. I didn't get to stay. The place was falling apart. Looked really dirty. The staff was quite nice to us and helped us finding a new place which was horrible and we didn't stay either. just don't go there... Heloie Marie, from Norway ~ 15th Oct 2009

Beware of the 2-bedroom apartment. Management was poor, check-in took about 45 minutes and the price was $40 higher than the agreed book price. Located in southern Harlem, didn't feel safe. Otherwise OK, not great. Ryan, from USA ~ 15th Oct 2009

The place felt somewhat crammed and crowded. Check-in was harder than it should be - with no sign indicating clearly the building or that entrance was in basement, coupled with the difficulty in locating the staff member. Overall, I had a good experience. Jonathan, from USA ~ 14th Oct 2009

The staff were all helpful and friendly, including accommodating my 3 am arrival one night! The owner personally was involved to make the stay pleasant. Kevin, from USA ~ 26th Sep 2009

I've stayed in alot of hostels, especially in New York, and this was by far the worst experience. The other guests were great but that was all that was good. I made a reservation but came to find the place was overbooked. I thought maybe I messed up with the reservation until I overheard the owner explaining to 2 other people that they didn't have a bed either. As it was midnight I setted for sleeping on a futon in the common room. The entire place was cramped, especially the sleeping quarters a Brandon, from USA ~ 23rd Sep 2009

If you want a unique hostel experience and the chance to meet a small but great bunch of people from all over the world, consider Explorer\'s House. We found it so easy to make yourself at home here. Jenilee, from Canada ~ 12th Sep 2009

If you are true explorer this place is probably your best option to stay in new york. small and very home-like hostel offers an opportutnity to meet a nice persons, not just to pass by other travelers. Dont expect proffesional and formal conditions, this place is more like family which accepts you while you stay there. Staff is very nice and personal and I already miss them. My regards to Jonathan and Kerry, belgium girls and dannish one, I like you very much. Michal, from Czech Republic ~ 4th Sep 2009
