Got overcharged, rooms overbooked, 6 ppl sleeping in 4 bed room (staff didn't do anything). Horrible shower room with cockroaches and cold water. Lasse, from Finland ~ 3rd Nov 2009

For some reason a mistake was made, either by Hostels.com or by Flinders Station backpackers. Someone else had booked the double ensuite room I booked for 3 nights, meaning I could not stay there! The staff lady was very nice and gave me a discount on a Double room, but I had to use the shared bathroom - which freaked me out as it was not clean (toilets were not even flushed!), and I booked the room with an ensuite because I have a phobia about sharing bathrooms! I called in advance to my stay to check some details and was not told that the hostel does not normally take victorians but upon ariving and showing my license this was brought up and felt a bit uncomfortable even though we were permitted to stay that 1 night for our music event we attended, just thought that info could be shown clear on the website or mentioned on the phone. reanna, from Australia ~ 9th Jun 2009

Large and incredibly loud; every sound in the hallways echos through so you hear all those drunken 4 am conversations loud and clear from your bed. If you're going to be the drunk one, then it's absolutely perfect; clean and in an amazing location! Melanie, from Canada ~ 6th May 2009

I chose Flinders because of its price and average recommendations. and msotly bcos of its location. and i must tell u, the location is awesome! near to everything: just a walk away from flinders station and federation square, and southbank. Another awesome for being surrounded by McD, two 7-11s, coles express, restos, n tram stop. It was my first time being alone staying in a hostel, but i feel comfortable, so the security's good. Overall it was a good place to stay. It was central to everything and the staff and other guests were friendly. One down fall was that a lot of things were out of order while I was there (eg. one lift, the bathroom on my floor, a toaster and 3 hotplate units), but you could get by with what was available.
