was in one of the two rooms in the basement with no natural light, felt like in the belly of a ship. not that great. one big room for showers and toilets, mixed gender, kinda weird. dampness from the showers got into the dorm. also, the later the night the more you can smell the drugs since the smoking rooms doors are wide open. Hostal excelente, muy buena localización( a 1 minuto de la estación) diversión en el pub que hay en recepción, tambien se puede fumar. Si vas a a amsterdam a divertirte este es tu hostal. Yo si vuelvo a Amsterdam volvere a este hostal seguro marti, from Spain ~ 28th Sep 2009

Downtown Hostel is actually pretty close to the Central train station and the Red Light District, but it's more like a chilling-out place rather than partying. All famous clubs are around at least 20 min walk away. Rooms and showers are not clean, but if you're searching for character in a place, than this is the right one. BUt if you want to go to bed early and sleep in a cleaner bed, then go somewhere else. The place is not reeked of smoke btw, except the entry floor. BORA, from Turkey ~ 6th Sep 2009

I really enjoyed staying at the flying pig. The most unique of all the hostels I stayed at while traveling. Would recommend even more IF YOU SMOKE. If not then you might want to try the one uptown instead. Other than that, loved it! Eryc, from Canada ~ 5th Sep 2009

The location is good and the security is awesome. The staff was very rude. The cleaning staff comes in and cleans when you're sleeping. They aren't considerate, they play music and are loud while they are cleaning. The rooms were very cramped Teela, from Canada ~ 9th Aug 2009
