our hosts, bob and christine, were very helpful and available. They had great suggestions for places to see and ways to get there. We felt the room was very private and our odd hours while recovering from jet lag were not a problem

We loved Freeman Lodge and the staff could not be any more kind! It was truly cosy accommodation I felt comfortable as I was at friend's house. However, the bathrooms were bit cold, and I found it quite difficult to manage the shower temperature and noises from the road came through out windows otherwise, no complaints. If you are looking forward to go down to Melbourne and want to save money as well as having a good fun, I recommend you to go to Freeman Lodge!

Freeman lodge is a very warm and clean place. Bob and Christina are very friendly and harmony is around the hostel. The place is only 5 min away from West Richmond train station. You can also get the City within 20 min by walk. Everything is clean including toilets and kitchens. It’s close to the busy Hoddle street therefore you can hear the traffic noise in some rooms. Not sure that this hostel deserves the 90% rating that it has at some places, but it is a nice hostel. It is remarkably quiet in terms of other guests, but being that it is situated on top of a train tunnel, it isn't so quiet in the morning - ear plugs may be recommended. This is definitely not a party hostel, in fact it feels more like a boutique bed and (continental) breakfast, with a wonderful relaxed vibe.
