Pros: Good location (away from the Party Mile), very nice reception staff, very spacious for a small hostel. Cons: Not the cleanest hostel (sink in bedom has not been cleaned for at least 5 days, yuk!) and light have short timed motion detecors so some areas not usable after dark. Front gate easy to overcome. Very bad mattresses.

This is the friendliest hostel i've stayed during my time in Oz, had such a great time. It's really laid back and easygoing and not too big, so everybody get to know each other.

THIS PLACE IS GREAT IN THAT IT IS ABOUT A5 MINUTE WALK TO THE BEACH. IT IS ABOUT 15/20MINS TO BARS AND RESTAURANTS ON FOOT. THE STAFF ARE EXCEPTIONALLY FRIENDLY. MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT RECEPTION IS ONLY OPEN A FEW HOURS A DAY SO CAN BE DIFFICULT IF YOU HAVE ANY URGENT QUESTIONS OR AN EMERGENCY! MAIN PROBLEM WITH THIS PLACE IS LACK OF CLEANLINESS. IT IS ONE OF THE DIRTIEST HSTELS I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. A COCKROACH SAT IN ONE OF THE TOILETS FOR 4 DAYS. A CLEANER IS THERE EACH MORNING BUT DOESN'T DO ENOUGH TO KEEP THIS PLACE CLEAN. OVERALL WE ENJOYED OUR STAY.

Gecko lodge is very laid-back, and mostly in a good way, but the sinks in the rooms were disgusting and so were the ants crawling all over the shower curtain. The pancake breakfast was very tasty though. Also, A/C is only turned on in the rooms from 6pm to 8am. I have very mixed feelings about this place, it is both very good and not so good.

Great place, good atmosphere and a nice owner! He's a Dutchie, always good 'cause I'm to. Am here for almost a week now, just love is. Nice pool, funtional kitchen, air-con dorms. (Y)

staff were very helpful, the air con is swiched off during the day and the dorms could get very hot
